The Royal Rajasthan is a fusion of many princely states which were under the rule of Rajput rulers. In earlier times, Nahargarh was known as Sudarshan Garh and was constructed in 1734 by Maharaj Sawai Jai Singh II which is essentially a powerful defense for Jaipur city.  Nahargarh is referred to as the ‘house of tigers’ because the Tigers used to roam here and there around the hills. There was a conclusion that the fort was named after Prince Nahar Singh Bhomia. There are many buildings inside the fort which are a temple, another temple which is devoted to Nahar Singh Bhomia, a prince, a 12-storey complex known as Madhavendra Bhavan named and built by Sawai Madho Singh. Check out the Diwan-I-Aam which is an open space where the kings used to meet common people to hear out their problems. Nahargarh and Jaigarh fort are connected to each other by their extended ramparts. The fort remained invulnerable but has been a witness to many vital battles like the event of the treaty between the Marathas and the Jaipur rulers in the 18th century. It has also been served as a refuge for a large number of Europeans during the period of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 which includes the wife of British Resident also. This fort is popular not only for scenic views but for history and medieval architecture also.

Things to Carry                                  

Nahargarh being an extensive fort will take some time to walk around over here. The weather will be hot there so don’t forget to carry your water bottles. You can also take some food packaged with you but kindly not junk. Dress yourselves in loose, cotton clothes and bring a wide-rim hat and sunglasses along with you. All these things are important as the weather is warm over there.  Wear comfortable shoes as this will help you to walk long distances.

  • Entrance charge: Normal charges for Indians is Rs. 20 and for Foreigners, it is Rs. 50. Composite tickets are also available which is Rs. 70 for Indians and Rs.350 for foreigners. This ticket will cover the fees of Amer Fort, Jantar Mantar, Central Museum and the Hawa Mahal.
  • Photography Cost: The fees to take photos for the Indians is Rs. 20 and for foreigners is Rs. 50.
  • Video Cost: The cost of video making is Rs. 70.
