Discover two very different sides of Rajasthan on this 4 Days Jaipur Mandawa Tour, combining the royal architecture of Jaipur with the fresco-painted havelis of Mandawa and Nawalgarh in the historic Shekhawati region. The itinerary is designed for travellers who want to experience Rajasthan's famous forts and palaces while also exploring smaller heritage towns beyond the usual tourist circuit.
From Jaipur, travel into the Shekhawati countryside to Mandawa, a historic trading settlement known for ornate merchant mansions, narrow lanes and colourful wall paintings. Continue through Nawalgarh before returning to Jaipur, where a full day is dedicated to the Pink City's major landmarks including Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal.
The tour offers a balanced introduction to Rajasthan's royal history and mercantile heritage. Mandawa and Nawalgarh preserve an extraordinary collection of painted havelis created by prosperous merchant families, while Jaipur presents the grand forts, astronomical monuments, palaces and traditional bazaars for which Rajasthan is internationally known.
With manageable driving distances and two nights around Jaipur, this itinerary works particularly well as a short Rajasthan tour or as an extension to a longer Rajasthan itinerary. The journey can also be personalised according to arrival time, hotel category and onward travel plans.
Arrive in Jaipur, where you will be met and assisted before beginning the drive towards Mandawa in Rajasthan's historic Shekhawati region.
As you leave Jaipur, the landscape gradually changes from the busy capital to rural Rajasthan, with small villages, traditional homes and agricultural countryside along the route.
On arrival in Mandawa, check in at your hotel and take some time to relax. Later, begin exploring the old town on foot. Mandawa developed as an important trading settlement and became known for the richly decorated mansions built by prosperous merchant families.
Walk through narrow streets lined with traditional havelis and observe elaborate frescoes depicting mythology, everyday life, royal processions and scenes influenced by the changing world of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Depending on arrival time, you may also explore Mandawa's local market and heritage lanes before returning to the hotel.
Overnight stay in Mandawa.
After breakfast, continue exploring Mandawa and some of the beautifully decorated havelis for which the Shekhawati region is famous. The painted façades, courtyards and traditional architecture provide a fascinating look at the lifestyle of Rajasthan's historic merchant communities.
Later, drive towards Nawalgarh, another important heritage town in the Shekhawati region. Nawalgarh is particularly well known for its preserved mansions, colourful fresco paintings and traditional market streets.
Explore some of the town's historic havelis and walk through its old quarters to see decorative doorways, courtyards and murals representing both traditional Indian themes and influences introduced during the colonial period.
After the Nawalgarh visit, continue by road to Jaipur. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and relax.
If time permits, spend the evening exploring one of Jaipur's traditional bazaars, where shops sell textiles, jewellery, handicrafts, block-printed fabrics and other Rajasthani products.
Overnight stay in Jaipur.
After breakfast, begin a full day of sightseeing in Jaipur, Rajasthan's historic capital and one of the most important destinations on a first journey through northern India.
Start with Amber Fort , located on the hills outside the main city. Explore its gateways, courtyards, audience halls and royal apartments while learning about the Rajput rulers who governed the region before Jaipur was established as the new capital.
On the way back towards central Jaipur, stop for photographs near Jal Mahal, the picturesque palace situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake.
Continue to the City Palace , an impressive complex of courtyards, museums and royal buildings that remains closely connected to Jaipur's former ruling family.
Nearby, visit Jantar Mantar , the eighteenth-century astronomical observatory containing monumental instruments designed for observing celestial movements and measuring time.
Stop at Jaipur's iconic Hawa Mahal, whose distinctive pink façade and hundreds of small windows have made it one of Rajasthan's most recognised landmarks.
Later, explore Jaipur's old city markets, where traditional shops specialise in jewellery, gemstones, textiles, handicrafts, blue pottery and block-printed fabrics.
Overnight stay in Jaipur.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and spend the morning at leisure according to your departure schedule.
If your flight or train leaves later in the day, you may have additional time for shopping, exploring Jaipur's markets or visiting a nearby attraction depending on your interests.
At the appropriate time, you will be transferred to Jaipur Airport or Jaipur Railway Station for your onward journey.
Your 4-day Jaipur, Mandawa and Nawalgarh heritage journey concludes with memories of Rajasthan's royal forts, colourful bazaars and the remarkable fresco-painted havelis of the Shekhawati region.
Tour ends in Jaipur.
