History of Lake Pichola

Maharana Udai Singh was much attracted by this majestic lake so he decided to establish Udaipur city on the borders of this very lake. Maharana Udai Singh enlarged the lake by constructing a dam on its shore. Later various palaces, islands, mansions, temples and bathing ghats were established in the surrounding areas of the lake which made it even more attractive. The Lake Palace is the highlight of this beautiful lake which rests in the heart of the lake built on Jag Island. During the time between 1628 – 1652, Jagat Singh built Mohan Mandir and Jag Mandir is the other island to explore here. The best time is from October to March that is the wintertime to visit this famous and beautiful place.
