Bannerghatta National Park, Bangalore

The Bannerghatta National Park was founded in 1970 and was declared a national park in 1974. The park is the perfect destination for trekkers and hikers. Enclosed within the park are ancient temples as well. The park’s main attraction is the splendid wildlife. The park was declared a biological reserve in 2002 and is one of the very few places where you can witness wildlife in such close proximity to the main city.

Bannerghatta National Park has a lot to offer to its visitors excluding the diverse range of flora and fauna.

  • Elephant Sanctuary - The elephant sanctuary is a major attraction spread across 122 acres. The sanctuary designed by Carol Buckley allows you to interact and feed elephants that roam freely. The park is one of the finest in the country.
  • Zoo - The park contains a zoo with a specialist section for reptile display. The zoo is also home to a wide variety of mammals and exotic birds which includes rare species such as the Thamin deer, Himalayan Black bear, and Hog Deer, etc.
  • Butterfly Park - The park comprises the first-ever enclosed butterfly park in the country expanding over 7.5 acres. The park also has an audio-visual room for observation
  • Safari - The jungle safari of the park is one of the most engaging activities to do while visiting the Bannerghatta National Park. It is managed by the Karnataka State Tourism Department.
  • ChampakaDhama Swamy Temple - The temple is a beauty constructed in the Dravidian form of architecture and houses Lord Narasimha.

How to reach Bannerghatta National Park

It is advisable to take a prepaid uber or ola from the airport or a more economical option will be to take a bus from the airport to Ulsoor and take a taxi from Ulsoor to the airport. The park is also well connected to many important areas of Bangalore.
