Shalimar Bagh Srinagar, Kashmir

Shalimar Bagh, Srinagar, is the most extensive Mughal garden in the valley of Kashmir, which was built by the Mughal Emperor named Jahangir in 1619 AD. He built the Shalimar Bagh for his wife, Nur Jahan. Shalimar Bagh is made up of immense beauty with shallow terraces. The garden is 539x132 meters wide and captures the space towards the end of Dal Lake. The park covers an area of 31 acres. The periphery in the garden is marked with giant chinars. The Shalimar Garden is a three terraced garden. The first terrace is the public garden and has many water fountains which lead to Diwan-e-Aam. The second terrace consists of two narrow terraces lined by many water fountains; this leads to Diwan-e-Khaas. The third terrace of Shalimar Bagh is the Zenana garden.

  • Moreover, explore the canal that runs in the Shalimar Bagh center along with the Shalimar Bagh. Oil lamps are lighted during the night through these ChiniKhanas. It creates a dazzling sight.
  • At present, the ChiniKhanas are adorned with beautiful colored pots. A small Baradari can be reached from the black pavilion by using two subordinate water channels.

By Air: Sheikh ul Alam International Airport is the nearest airport. You can Reach Shalimar Bagh within 25 kilometers from it

By train: It is about 22 km from the Srinagar Railway Station.

You must visit Shalimar Bagh in Srinagar in the peak season, which is from May to October. The weather during this time is salubrious. The visitors of Shalimar Bagh witness the exhilarating light and also notices the excellent show.
