International travelers will soon have no problems traveling to Sri Lanka. In response to recent reports, the island nation has announced the resumption of visa-on-arrival facilities for international travelers entering the country.

It has been reported that Indian tourists and visitors from other countries will be able to obtain an on-arrival ETA. Currently, however, the said facility will not be accessible to passport holders of some countries, such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Syria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Myanmar, Cameron, North Korea, and Nepal.

As a result, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) released a notification stating that the on-arrival ETA at the port of entry to Sri Lanka would become effective immediately for those tourists who were unable to obtain an ETA by online means due to the short time period available to travel to Sri Lanka.

CAASL Chairman Upul Dharmadasa urged tourists arriving in Sri Lanka to get an online ETA wherever possible before their arrival. Reports indicate that India has emerged as a major tourist source market for the island nation since its reopening following the pandemic, and has received record numbers of Indian travelers since then. A number of Indian tourists have been lured to the island nation by attractive offers on flight tickets and a quarantine-free stay.

According to earlier reports, Sri Lanka has also required all tourists on arrival to hold a valid travel insurance policy, while the COVID-19 insurance coverage can be purchased online at www.portal.pionline.lk/covid-insurance with a coverage of at least USD 50000, which includes coverage for COVID-19 treatment. When landing in Sri Lanka, travelers must purchase the insurance coverage prior to leaving the respective airports. Upon boarding an aircraft, however, there are no insurance requirements.
