Pushkar Camel Fair is all about the camels which can be seen all around the fair. These camels are dressed up in Rajasthani attires and camel races are performed these camels are also made to participate in camel beauty contests.
The traders present here have good bargaining skills which is a sight to watch as they bargain with all their hearts for these camels.
Bridal and longest moustache competition
This camel fair brings with it the competition of the longest moustache where the men can be seen showing off their facial fair which goes up to many inches and lengths long.
In the bridal competition, the young brides are dressed in their best attires and they compete for beautiful faces.
Pilgrimage at Brahma Temple
Pushkar Lake is a small lake which is located in the center of the city. This fair is held in Pushkar and many people come to this lake to offer their prayers. This has made Lake Pushkar an important pilgrimage place.

Many shops are also lined up for people to buy various Rajasthani traditions like jewellery, silver crockery, etc. A wide range of carpets can be found here along with shiny tassel kinds of stuff.
How to go to Pushkar?
The fastest way to reach Pushkar is by flight which is the Jaipur International Airport. From here, you can take a cab driver which is 3 hours long. During the festival time, one can find the fares rising. Taking a private tour at times can be relaxing and enjoyable.
Where to stay during the Pushkar fair?
During the Pushkar Camel Fair, there are limited accommodation options for guests as all of the accommodations are filled by people. You can stay at guest houses or simply at the desert camps made for this occasion. A farm stay can be exciting as well. As many visitors come to see this festival, the rooms run out very fast and the prices are also much.

I visited the Pushkar Mela for its entire time from 2013 to 2017 the stay was close to two weeks for one did not want to miss the early camel trails and people/families setting up their permanent homes for the next two weeks.
And one stayed till they started loading their belongings back onto their camel carts and start leaving.
It was a world by itself that came to life every year in the October/November time frame depending upon the Indian calender dates for the month of Karthik – starting on the first day of the month and going onto the full moon day of the month (Karthik Poornima) two weeks later.
I am sorry to inform that the mela started dying by 2016 and although it occupied such an important part of my annual calendar , I had to give up after 2017.
Already there were more photographers in Pushkar than camel and horse breeders.
Since then the decline has been steeper than imaginable.
The 2-3 (if that any) days apportioned to Pushkar Mela in all Pushkar packages is an indicator of the decimation of the animal fair as an attraction.
Of course, the throng of villagers on the Karthik Poornima day and a day or so before could be a reason to visit but to call it a Pushkar Mela Tour is a complete misnomer and devious.
