Frozen-Pangong-Lake

This year, Ladakh will host the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon. It is a 21 km long marathon, which will be the first of its kind in the country, and the venue is perfectly suited for this event. Registrations have already begun.

There is a possibility that the marathon will set a Guinness World Record for the first time in the history of mankind at an altitude of 13,862 feet, making it the first marathon ever held at that altitude. That would certainly make the marathon a Guinness World Record.

Detailed About Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon

In February 2023, the first of its kind in India, the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon, affectionately known as The Last Run, will take place in Ladakh for the first time. Even though the name sounds grim, the issue of global warming and climate change is just as grim. Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh is organizing a marathon to raise awareness about the issue of climate change through the use of sports.

This is the very first 21 km long marathon to be organized in India, and the choice of venue is perfect for such an event. Registration for this marathon has already started, and the event is expected to be a great success.

For this marathon, getting up and running is not enough. Because of the ice and cold conditions along the marathon trail, runners will be selected based on their prior experiences running marathons and other high-altitude adventure sports (above 10,000 feet). There is a mandatory acclimatization process that runners must follow.

It is expected that the marathon will take place at an altitude of 13,862 ft, making it the first marathon in the world to ever take place at this altitude. That is indeed a chance for a Guinness World Record to be achieved.

This year, the entire 21 km stretch of the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon will take runners across PangonTso. This will make it not only one of the most unique running experiences but also one of the most stunning running experiences.

Due to the fact that this region is already an ecologically sensitive area, the number of runners selected for this race will be limited as only a limited number of participants will be accepted.

In order to participate in the marathon, runners must purchase the marathon package (9D/8N), which includes acclimatization training, hotel accommodation, food, and airport transfers to and from Leh.
