Five new tourist villages are planned for Kashmir’s Dal Lake: Kachri Mohalla, Sofi Mohalla, Tinda Mohalla, Akhoon Mohalla, and a vegetable market. Each village will have accommodation for tourists, as well as basic infrastructure for locals and tourists alike. This project comes under the Tourist Villages Development program, a Mission Youth initiative.
This initiative will also provide locals more opportunities to earn a living since Dal Lake is already a very popular tourist destination. Ultimately, it will strengthen rural economies in the region. Furthermore, the new tourist villages are likely to be used as filming locations in the future.
