With the new scheme laid down by the Bhutanese government, the provision of free entry for all Indian tourists to enter into the country will levy a fee of Rs 1,200 per person per day. The government has announced that the new scheme will be in action from July 2020. A few other nations that will be included under the new scheme are Bangladesh and Maldives.
For children who fall between the age of 6 on 12 years, a charge of Rs 600 is required to be paid as a Sustainable Development Fee. This is a recently introduced provision by the government of Bhutan. The reason behind making changes in the tourism policy is to assist in the regulation of the heavy traffic of tourists in the country.

The amount of SDF fee for Indian passport holders has been kept low when compared to travellers of other nations. International tourists are entitled to pay USD 65 along with a mandatory fixed cover fee of USD 250 per day. This decision for the introduction of the fee was approved by the country’s national assembly under the Tourism Levy and Exemption Bill of Bhutan, 2020.
Earlier, Indian tourists who wished to visit Bhutan needed to furnish any of the 2legal travel documents without any entry fee. These travel documents were a voter ID card allotted by the Election Commission of India and an Indian passport with at least six months validity. Earlier, there was no need to present a visa to visit Bhutan.

With the old travel rules, Indian tourists who were visiting Bhutan by road needed to present valid travel documents to get an entry permit from the Immigration Office of Royal Government of Bhutan located at Phuentsholing. Indian travellers who were visiting Bhutan by air were needed to carry valid travel documents as well as entry permit to present them at the Paro International Airport. The entry permit enables Indian tourists to enter only Paro, and Thimphu. But with the modified travel rules as laid down by the government of Bhutan, if you plan to visit Bhutan, you will need to disperse more than you what you had to in the past.
