History of the Gyuto Monastery:
In 1474, at first Guyto Monastery was founded by Konga Dhondup, who was the chief disciple of Dalai Lama. Later, in 1959the monastery was re-established in India and now it is the temporary residence of His Holiness, Karmapa. The monastery is home to nearly 500 monks and they are proficient in chanting and tantric meditation. The main motive of this monastery is to translate Buddhist teachings in the form of religious texts and traditions. In 2011, for their chants, they were nominated for Grammy awards.
Based on the practice of teachings, four lineages were developed. The Gelug Lineage, the last one by Ksongkhapais the reason for the establishment of the Gyuto monastery. He is a very passionate and great scholar in Tibet, who is very well-versed in tantric teachings and meditation. With his vision of preaching tantric, he established Gyudme and Gyuto monasteries. After many uncertainties and issues, in 1959, GyutoMonastery was established in Sidhbarinear Dharamshala.

By Air: Gaggal Airport is the closest airport to Dharamshala. It is just 15 km away from Dharamshala. From the airport, you can hire a cab or taxi directly to the monastery.
By Train: The train route is not that much recommended because the nearest railway station is Pathankot, which is 85 km far away from Dharamshala. So, from Pathankot, we have to take a local or private bus to Dharamshala.
By Road: Dharamshala is well-connected to all its surrounding major cities. After reaching Dharamshala, you can en route to Sidbari to reach the monastery.
