A Complete Himalayan Journey from Shimla to Dalhousie
This 9 nights and 10 days Himachal tour package is designed for travellers who want to experience more than one hill station. Beginning in Delhi and concluding in Amritsar, the journey connects Shimla, Kufri, Manali, Dharamshala and Dalhousie, bringing together mountain scenery, colonial heritage, Tibetan culture and relaxed Himalayan towns.
Start with the forested ridges and historic character of Shimla, followed by an excursion to Kufri. The route then continues to Manali through the Kullu Valley for riverside landscapes, temples, mountain viewpoints and a weather-dependent excursion towards Rohtang Pass or an accessible alternative.
The second half explores the quieter western side of Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala introduces Tibetan Buddhist culture and the mountain setting of McLeod Ganj, while Dalhousie offers pine-covered slopes, colonial-era buildings and access to Khajjiar. The tour finishes in Amritsar, adding the Golden Temple and Punjabi heritage to an already varied Himalayan holiday.
Why This Himachal Route Works
Rather than returning to Delhi after Manali, the itinerary follows a westward route through Dharamshala and Dalhousie before ending in Amritsar. This reduces unnecessary backtracking and allows travellers to experience the distinct character of several Himalayan regions within one organised journey.
What the Ten-Day Pace Feels Like
The itinerary balances guided sightseeing with scenic road travel, but it includes several substantial mountain transfers. Shimla to Manali and Manali to Dharamshala are among the longer days. Travellers who prefer slower mornings or more leisure time may extend the tour by one or two nights.

After breakfast at the hotel, go on a Kufri excursion. Explore Himalayan National Park, Poney and Yak rides and enjoy stunning Himalayan views.
Visit the mosques (1830), Vice-regal Lodge (1885), Christ Church (1844), Gaiety Theatre (1887), and Grindlays Bank (1912).
Visit Scandal Point & the famous Shopping Plaza at the North Mall. Overnight at Shimla hotel.
Leave early for an excursion to Manali. The distance is 265 km, approx. 7 hours journey.
Overnight stay at Manali hotel.
After breakfast, visit Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Vashisht Bath, and Van Vihar. In the evening, enjoy shopping at the Mall Road. Overnight stay in Manali.
Get ready for *Rohtang Pass (3979m, 51 km from Manali)*. Enjoy snow sports and panoramic mountain views. Relax in the evening and overnight stay in Manali.
Dharamshala is 260 km from Manali. Stop at Baijnath Temple and enjoy scenic pine & oak valleys and Dhauladhar mountain views.
After breakfast visit McLeod Ganj, residence of His Holiness Dalai Lama, War Memorial, Bhagsunag Temple & Dal Lake. Continue to Dalhousie. Overnight stay in Dalhousie.
Explore Dalhousie attractions Panjpulla, Subhash Baoli and then visit Khajjiar (Mini Switzerland of India). Return to Dalhousie for overnight stay.
Drive 250 km to Amritsar. Attend Wagah Border Retreat Ceremony and visit Golden Temple. Overnight stay in Amritsar.
After breakfast, transfer to railway station/airport for final departure.

Ten days is sufficient for a well-planned tour covering Shimla, Kufri, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie and Amritsar. It is a moderately active itinerary with several hotel changes and some long road journeys. Travellers who want additional leisure time in Manali or Dharamshala should consider extending the package to 11 or 12 days.
March to June and September to November generally offer the most practical conditions for the complete route. Spring and early summer are suitable for sightseeing, while autumn often brings clearer mountain views. July and August receive monsoon rain, which can affect mountain roads. Winter is suitable for snow experiences, but Rohtang Pass normally becomes inaccessible and the itinerary must be adjusted.
No. Rohtang Pass is a seasonal high-altitude destination, and access depends on snow clearance, weather, road safety, permit availability and local authority instructions. When the pass is closed, sightseeing may be arranged towards Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel, Gulaba or another accessible snow point. The final alternative depends on conditions during the travel dates.
This is a road-based mountain itinerary. Delhi to Shimla usually requires around seven to nine hours, while Shimla to Manali and Manali to Dharamshala can each occupy most of the day. Dharamshala to Dalhousie is shorter, and Dalhousie to Amritsar normally takes approximately five to six hours. All timings are estimates and can change with traffic, weather and roadworks.
The tour can suit families and active senior travellers who are comfortable with winding mountain roads and regular hotel changes. Some attractions involve slopes, stairs and walking on uneven ground. Families with very young children and travellers prone to motion sickness may prefer fewer destinations or an additional night in Manali to reduce the pace.
The Golden Temple is normally the principal attraction included in Amritsar. Jallianwala Bagh and the Attari–Wagah border ceremony may also be added according to the arrival and departure schedule. The border ceremony is subject to security instructions and operational timings. Because the tour ends in Amritsar, confirm whether an airport, railway station or hotel transfer is included.
Yes. Hotel category, vehicle type, sightseeing and the number of nights can be adjusted. Travellers can add another night in Manali, replace Dalhousie with a longer Dharamshala stay, include Chandigarh, or arrange a return to Delhi instead of ending in Amritsar. Any Rohtang permit, local vehicle, adventure activity or special sightseeing inclusion should be listed clearly in the final quotation.
