Ellora-Ajanta Festival returns after 7 years

Ajanta Caves is soon to offer stargazing!

The Ellora-Ajanta International Festival is a highly anticipated cultural event set to take place in the Aurangabad district in India. After a hiatus of seven years, the district authorities have decided to bring back the festival with great enthusiasm. To kick off the festivities, a pre-festival event called ‘Purvarang’ will be held on February 12th at the Sant Eknath Rang Mandir in Osmanpura, Aurangabad. This event will feature popular Marathi musical performances and notable Hindi and Sufi musical acts.

The main three-day Ellora-Ajanta International Festival will take place at the Soneri Mahal, which is a part of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University premises. During this time, several renowned local, national, and international artists will showcase their talents, making the festival a must-visit for anyone who loves traditional folk music.

The festival was first launched in 1985 and was a huge success, taking place at the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ellora caves and the Kailasa Temple. The venue has changed this year, but the atmosphere and excitement are expected to remain the same. An impressive artist lineup includes Ustad Rashid Khan, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Mahesh Kale, Ravi Chari, Shivmani, Vijay Ghate, Sangeeta Mazumdar, and Shankar Mahadevan; this year’s festival is expected to be just as popular as its first iteration.

In addition to providing an amazing cultural experience, the Ellora-Ajanta International Festival is being revived to promote tourism in the Aurangabad district. If you’re in the area, mark your calendars for February 25th-27th and experience the magic of this unique festival.
