10 Days Tokyo Kyoto Hiroshima and Osaka Tour

10 Days Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima & Osaka Tour

9 Nights / 10 Days Tokyo · Kyoto · Nara · Hiroshima · Miyajima · Osaka

Tour Overview

Ten days is long enough to see more than Tokyo and Kyoto, but short enough that every hotel change still matters. This 10-day Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka itinerary keeps the route focused on cities, culture and history. Start with three nights in Tokyo, continue directly to Kyoto, then travel west to Hiroshima before finishing in Osaka.

There is no Hakone or Mt. Fuji overnight in this version. Instead, the extra time is used where it makes a noticeable difference: two full days in Tokyo, a three-night Kyoto base with a Nara day trip, and two nights in Hiroshima so Miyajima does not have to be rushed.

Why Skip Hakone on This 10-Day Route?

Hakone is worthwhile, but it changes the rhythm of the trip. If your priorities are Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka, travelling directly from Tokyo to Kyoto gives you more time in the cities you actually came to see and one less hotel change.

The route also gives Hiroshima proper breathing room. Many short itineraries arrive, visit Peace Memorial Park, rush to Miyajima and leave again. Two nights make those experiences feel separate and more meaningful.

The itinerary can be customised around hotel category, private guiding, rail preferences, food experiences, family travel, museum interests or extra time in Osaka.

Where the Extra Day Makes a Difference:

  • Three nights in Tokyo with two full sightseeing days.
  • Three nights in Kyoto instead of a rushed two-night stay.
  • Nara handled as an easy day trip with no hotel change.
  • Two nights in Hiroshima for a proper Miyajima excursion.
  • Osaka kept as the practical final stop before departure.

Who Is This Route Best For?

This itinerary suits first-time travellers who have around ten days and care most about Japan's major cities, cultural heritage and Hiroshima. It is especially useful for travellers who would rather spend more time in fewer places than add Mt. Fuji simply because it appears on many standard itineraries.

Ten Days Across Japan's Cultural Corridor

Arrive in Tokyo and transfer to your hotel. This itinerary is designed for travellers who want Japan’s major cultural cities without adding Hakone, Mt. Fuji or the Alps, so the first day is kept simple and the extra time is invested in Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima.

After check-in, have dinner near the hotel and take a short neighbourhood walk if you feel rested. There is no need to force sightseeing into the arrival evening.

You stay three nights in Tokyo, which gives the trip a comfortable start and two proper days to explore the capital.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Arrival assistance and hotel transfer.
  • Easy first evening after the international flight.
  • Three-night Tokyo base.

Overnight stay in Tokyo.

Arrival in Tokyo on a 10 day Japan itinerary

Spend the day seeing contrasting sides of Tokyo. Asakusa and Senso-ji work well for the traditional side, while Shibuya or Shinjuku can introduce the modern city later in the day.

Do not try to cover six neighbourhoods just because the trains make them reachable. A strong Tokyo day usually means fewer districts, more walking and enough time for food, a viewpoint or a museum.

If you want a specialist day around food, design, shopping or family interests, explore our Tokyo tours.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Asakusa and Senso-ji.
  • One major modern Tokyo district.
  • Balanced sightseeing without excessive cross-city travel.

Use the second full Tokyo day for the interests that matter most to you. Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Ginza, gardens, museums, digital art, food markets or quieter neighbourhoods can all fit naturally.

This extra day is one of the main reasons to choose the 10-day version instead of a faster city-hopping route. It gives Tokyo room to feel like a destination rather than an arrival point.

Keep part of the afternoon unstructured. Japan trips often become better when one day is allowed to breathe.

Why This Day Matters:

  • A second full Tokyo sightseeing day.
  • Flexible planning around personal interests.
  • Time for shopping, food or a slower neighbourhood experience.

Travel from Tokyo to Kyoto by intercity rail. The route skips a Hakone overnight, which keeps the journey direct and gives Kyoto three nights.

After check-in, take a light walk through Gion, Yasaka Shrine or the traditional streets of Higashiyama if time allows.

The main cultural sightseeing begins tomorrow, so there is no need to turn the transfer afternoon into a full temple day.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Direct intercity journey from Tokyo to Kyoto.
  • Relaxed first evening in Kyoto.
  • Three-night Kyoto base.

Overnight stay in Kyoto.

Spend a full day around eastern Kyoto. Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera and Higashiyama form a strong first-time route, with one additional garden or temple if your pace allows.

Kyoto is not improved by rushing from temple to temple. Leave enough time for tea, lunch and walking through the old streets, where much of the city’s character is found between the famous sights.

A craft, tea or cultural activity can replace one landmark if you want a more personal experience.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Fushimi Inari.
  • Kiyomizu-dera and Higashiyama.
  • Time for traditional streets, tea or cultural activities.

Take a day trip to Nara for Nara Park, Todai-ji and the surrounding temple area, then return to Kyoto for the night.

Keeping Nara as a day trip works particularly well on this route because you retain the same Kyoto hotel for three nights and avoid repacking for a single overnight.

Back in Kyoto, use the evening for a relaxed dinner or one final walk through the city before heading west tomorrow.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Nara Park and Todai-ji.
  • Historic Buddhist heritage.
  • Return to the same Kyoto hotel.
  • No unnecessary one-night hotel change.

Leave Kyoto and travel west to Hiroshima. After check-in, spend the afternoon around Peace Memorial Park and the surrounding historical sites.

Hiroshima deserves its own afternoon. Keeping Miyajima for the following day allows the city’s history to be understood at a respectful pace instead of being squeezed between trains and ferry connections.

Stay two nights in Hiroshima, which also means your main luggage can remain at the hotel during tomorrow’s island excursion.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Rail journey from Kyoto to Hiroshima.
  • Peace Memorial Park and historical context.
  • Two-night Hiroshima stay.

Spend the day visiting Miyajima. Walk around the Itsukushima Shrine area, waterfront and island lanes, and give yourself enough time to enjoy the setting beyond the best-known viewpoint.

Ferry times, tides and local operating conditions can change the order of the day, so the excursion should remain flexible.

Return to Hiroshima for a second night. This makes the day far more comfortable than moving hotels immediately after the island visit.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Miyajima island excursion.
  • Itsukushima Shrine area.
  • Waterfront and island atmosphere.
  • Return to the same Hiroshima hotel.

Travel to Osaka for the final night. After arrival, choose a few city highlights rather than trying to complete a full Osaka itinerary in one afternoon.

Namba, Dotonbori, Osaka Castle or Umeda can all work depending on your interests and arrival time. Food is a major part of the experience, so leave enough room for a relaxed final dinner.

Ending in Osaka keeps the departure day practical for travellers flying from the Kansai region.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Rail journey from Hiroshima to Osaka.
  • Flexible afternoon or evening sightseeing.
  • Final dinner in one of Osaka's food districts.

After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport or rail station for your onward journey.

If your departure is later in the day, keep the morning close to the hotel with a relaxed breakfast, shopping stop or short local walk rather than adding a distant excursion.

The 10-day journey ends after giving Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima more depth than a faster Golden Route itinerary, with Nara, Miyajima and Osaka added without overcomplicating the route.

Why This Day Matters:

  • Departure transfer from Osaka.
  • Flexible final morning.
  • End of the 9-night / 10-day Japan itinerary.
