Wildlife aficionados, rejoice! The renowned Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) in Uttarakhand has ushered in its winter tourism season, witnessing a significant influx of visitors eager to experience the magic of the wild.
On the inaugural day, Diganth Nayak, Deputy Director of CTR, reported an impressive turnout of nearly 400 visitors, marking a promising start to the winter tourism festivities at the reserve.
Zones Open for Exploration
For those planning a visit, the zones currently welcoming tourists include Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhela, and Garjia. But that’s not all! CTR officials have announced that the remaining zones — Sonanadi, Pakhro, Dhikala, and Durga Devi — are gearing up to open their gates for day safaris in the coming month. Moreover, starting November 15, visitors can immerse themselves in the wilderness by staying at the reserve’s forest rest houses (FRHs), with bookings already underway.
Enhanced Visitor Experience
This season promises not just the allure of wildlife but also an upgraded visitor experience. From a revamped reservation system to the introduction of new amenities, CTR is set to offer a seamless journey into the heart of nature. To ensure authenticity and security, scanners have been installed at the entrance, eliminating any chances of entry pass forgery.
During a recent visit to the reserve, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami deliberated on the establishment of a special tiger protection force (STPF) in collaboration with the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). This initiative, inspired by similar forces in states like Karnataka, aims to bolster tiger conservation efforts in the region.
Welcoming the New Season
A ceremonial flag-off at the Bijrani gate set the tone for the season, with gypsies being dispatched in two phases — one in the morning and another in the afternoon. The reopening of zones like Bijrani, Dhikala, and Garjiya, post the monsoon-induced hiatus, was met with much enthusiasm. The monsoon season, while rejuvenating, often necessitates road repairs due to damages, as highlighted by forest officials.
Pandey also unveiled a new website dedicated to CTR bookings, ensuring a smoother and more user-friendly process for both day safaris and overnight stays.

The reopening of CTR has been met with widespread appreciation, especially among tour operators, guides, gypsy drivers, and other businesses that thrive on CTR tourism. With 360 registered gypsies under the reserve’s administration, bookings for safaris are in full swing.

However, the monsoon season, starting June 15, sees the reserve taking a brief respite. The heavy rains often render the forest roads impassable, necessitating a closure until October 15 to ensure the safety of visitors.
