Omicron cases in India are on the rise, leading several major Indian airlines to cut down their capacity in response to reduced demand for air travel and cancellation cases. Several airlines are once again facing a major impact from the third wave. Several Indian airlines have also waived off rescheduling fees and are offering free changes in flights until January 31.

According to an official press release, IndiGo stated, “We anticipate that around 20 percent of our current scheduled operations will be withdrawn from service.” Further, it states that it has decided to waive the change fee and is offering free date changes for all existing and new bookings until January 31, 2022, for flights booked up to March 31, 2022.

In addition to reducing capacity and waiving rescheduling fees, other airlines are following suit. Several airlines have already waived rescheduling fees, including Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and AirAsia India.

SpiceJet has announced its Free Date Changes Offer for passengers. All domestic and international flight tickets are eligible for a one-time waiver on the change fee, but the request must be made at least 48 hours before departure.

In addition to allowing one free change for all domestic flight bookings, Air Asia extended its rescheduling offer to include free rescheduling for all flight bookings made until January 31, 2022, for travel through March 31, 2022.

During the second wave of COVID-19, most Indian airlines had taken similar steps.
