The much-anticipated G20 Summit is scheduled for the upcoming weekend in New Delhi. The event is creating a buzz as it will host esteemed global personalities like US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Venue Spotlight: International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC)

Also known as Bharat Mandapam, the IECC complex within Pragati Maidan is the chosen venue for the summit. This state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 26. It is equipped with modern amenities such as exhibition halls, a convention center, and an amphitheater.

Cultural Extravaganza at Bharat Mandapam

During the G20 Summit, Bharat Mandapam, often dubbed the ‘culture corridor’, will showcase a diverse array of traditions from 29 countries, including special G20 invitees. Attendees can look forward to both physical and virtual exhibitions, ensuring a comprehensive and captivating experience.

Recent Additions

A majestic 27 ft bronze statue of Nataraja, made from Ashtadhatu and weighing around 18 tons, now graces Bharat Mandapam. This splendid artwork was crafted by the acclaimed sculptor Radhakrishnan Sthapaty from Swami Malai, Tamil Nadu, and his team in just seven months.

Bharat Mandapam: An Architectural Gem

  • Investment: Approximately INR 2,700 crores.
  • Purpose: Promote India as a leading global business destination.
  • Facilities: Meeting rooms, auditoriums, lounges, amphitheater, and a well-equipped business center.
  • Capacity: The multi-purpose and plenary halls can accommodate around seven thousand people, surpassing even the Sydney Opera House’s seating capacity.
  • Amphitheater: A magnificent space with a seating capacity for 3,000 individuals.

Drawing inspiration from Lord Basaveshwara’s Anubhav Mandapam concept, Bharat Mandapam is more than just a venue. As per government sources, it’s envisioned as a space for public ceremonies. Open to the general public, this expansive complex aligns with India’s vision of evolving into a modern and thriving nation.
