Covaxin made in India is approved by the UK Gov

Covaxin made in India has been approved by the UK as of today. The UK now approves Covaxin for travel abroad as part of its COVID-19 vaccine list. The news comes as a relief to thousands of Indian travellers who received the Bharat Biotech vaccine. Those who have been vaccinated with Covaxin do not need to isolate themselves after they arrive in the country.

According to Alex Ellis of the British High Commission, the UK will recognize Covaxin from November 22. Through Twitter, he posted the following message:

“More good news for Indian travellers to Great Britain. From 22 November travellers fully vaccinated with a Covid-19 vaccine recognised by the WHO for Emergency Use Listing, including Covaxin, will not have to self-isolate; so joining those fully vaccinated with Covishield”.

The UK government has added Sinovac and Sinopharm to its list of approved vaccines in addition to Covaxin. Across the globe, these three vaccines have been administered more than a billion times. The UK government announced the latest changes earlier this month, shortly after the World Health Organization (WHO) approved Covaxin as an “emergency-use” medication on November 3.

The world-wide recognition of the India-made vaccine followed soon afterwards. A second Indian vaccine, Covishield, was already approved for entry into the country on October 4. From October 11, Indian vaccine certificates were also accepted.

In India, Covishield and Covaxin are the two main vaccines used. Additionally, India uses Russian-made Sputnik vaccines and Johnson & Johnson vaccines for its vaccination program. New Zealand and Australia were among the countries that approved Covaxin and Covishield last week.
