12 Days South India Tour from Chennai

We will arrive in Tamil Nadu, Chennai (capital and one of the great cities of India). We will arrive at the hotel and we will be able to stay calmly.

We will have breakfast and visit the Temple of Kapaleeshwarar of S. XIII, dedicated to Shiva; the Fort of St. George, current seat of government, the museum where you can find memories of the British era, the Basilica of St. Thomas in Mylapore (built presumably on the tomb of the Apostle and which houses the relics of the saint) and the Marina Promenade. We will have dinner and we will stay.

We will have breakfast in the morning and we will leave for Kanchipuram, the “City of 1000 temples”. Some of its temples are: Kailasanatha and the Ekambaneshwaram, Kamaskhi and Vaikunthaperumal of the 7th and 8th century. Then we will go to Mahabalipuram, the “City of the Seven Pagodas”, and we will visit the Temple of the Shore, “the descent of the Ganges”, the group of five Rathas and some temples carved in individual stones. Finally, we will have dinner and stay at the hotel.

Very early we will have breakfast and we will go towards Gangaikonda Cholapuram to contemplate the temple of Brahadeeswarar, directed to the god Shiva. We will arrive at Kumbakonam and we will continue to see the group of temples of Kumbakonam. Dinner and accommodation will be at the hotel.

First, we will have breakfast and visit the Darasuram temple, as an example of Chola architecture. Next, we will observe the temple of Brihadeeshwarar, recognized as the best temple made of Drávida. Finally, we will see the fourth largest city in Tamil Nadu. We will have dinner and we will be able to stay at the hotel.

We will have breakfast and we will go by road to Madurai, place of pilgrimage and learning since many years ago. In addition, we will visit the town of Chettinad known for the mansions. We will have lunch in some restaurant around there, and we will offer traditional food of the region. We will continue by road to Madurai and at night we can stay and have dinner at the hotel.

We will have breakfast and in the morning we will visit the flower market. Then we will visit the most important city and the Meenakshi temple, the Tirumalai Nayak palace and the Tiruparankidram temple, with a great facade of dragons drawn in blue and yellow. At night, we will see a peculiar act in which the priests show the god and perform rituals with music. Dinner and accommodation will be at the hotel.

We will have breakfast and we will go by road to Kumarakom, taking a boat ride on Lake Periyar. We will have lunch in the village and then we will continue towards Kumarakom. Once we have arrived, we will have dinner and stay at the hotel.

We will have breakfast and go by road to Alleppey and on the way we will visit some tea and cardamom plantations. In Alleppey we will go up to a small boat to walk through a lake and see the Backwaters channels closer. Then we will continue by road to Cochin. Dinner and accommodation will be at the hotel.

We will have breakfast and visit the city and the old Jewish synagogue in Mattancherry. In addition, we will see the fishermen with the typical Chinese fishing nets, the church of San Francisco, the Dutch palace and we will visit the ancient streets of Cochin. Finally, we will attend a dance of the Kathakali region in a local theater. Finally we can have dinner and stay at the hotel.

In the morning we will have breakfast and according to the flight schedule, we will be transferred to the airport. We must leave the hotel at 12:00. (check-out)
