8 Days Best of Chhattisgarh Tour
Eight days is enough to see several sides of Chhattisgarh without turning the journey into a succession of hurried photo stops. Begin in Raipur, continue to Sirpur's temples and Buddhist ruins, and spend a night near the woodland of Barnawapara. From here the route heads south towards Kanker and the Bastar region, where traditional crafts, forest landscapes and two of the state's best-known waterfalls give the trip a very different character.
The centrepiece is Jagdalpur. Use it as a base for Chitrakote Falls on the Indravati River and the green valleys around Tirathgarh and Kanger Valley National Park. There is time to stop at a workshop or market when a local visit can be arranged respectfully, rather than treating village life as a performance. The longest transfers are kept clear of demanding sightseeing. This is a private, road-based journey that suits travellers interested in archaeology, nature and local culture. Wildlife drives, cave access and waterfall viewpoints are planned according to permits, conditions and safe access on your actual travel dates.
Tour Highlights

- Forest landscapes and optional permitted nature drive near Barnawapara.
- The overland route through Kanker towards Bastar.
- Chitrakote Falls and the Indravati river landscape.
- Tirathgarh Falls and accessible areas of Kanger Valley National Park.
8-Day Chhattisgarh Itinerary
Arrive at Raipur Airport or railway station and meet your driver for the transfer to the hotel. Keep the first afternoon deliberately light, especially after an international connection. If your arrival time allows, take a short orientation drive or sample a Chhattisgarhi meal in town. Your driver will discuss the next day's departure and road journey to Sirpur. There is no need to rush sightseeing today; the more interesting archaeological and forest landscapes begin tomorrow.
Overnight in Raipur.

Drive towards Sirpur on the Mahanadi, known for its early temples and Buddhist archaeological sites. Explore Lakshman Temple and selected excavated remains with a guide where available. The ruins span more than one religious tradition, and their stories are more rewarding than a quick stop for photographs. Continue by road towards Barnawapara for an overnight stay near the sanctuary. The final approach and accommodation choice depend on the property booked; leave the evening free for rest and forest sounds.
Overnight in Barnawapara area.

If access is open and an authorised vehicle can be booked, begin with a guided forest drive or birdwatching outing in the Barnawapara area. This is a wildlife experience, not a guaranteed tiger or leopard sighting. After breakfast, continue towards Kanker, allowing much of the afternoon for the journey and comfort stops. On arrival, stretch your legs in town or visit an accessible local viewpoint only if daylight and weather permit. The schedule avoids adding a long excursion after the transfer.
Overnight in Kanker.
Travel south on the main highway towards Jagdalpur. Kondagaon is a worthwhile break if an artisan workshop is open and the visit has been arranged with the makers. Bell-metal, wrought-iron and other craft traditions are part of the region's living economy, so allow time for conversation rather than a rushed sales stop. Reach Jagdalpur and check in. If you arrive with spare time, explore a nearby market or enjoy an easy evening. Keep the main waterfall outings for the next two days.
Overnight in Jagdalpur.
Head west from Jagdalpur to Chitrakote Falls, where the Indravati River drops over a broad rocky edge. The view changes strikingly with the season: the falls can be thunderous after heavy rain and more segmented during drier months. Spend time at approved viewpoints and, if conditions permit, add a nearby heritage or countryside stop on the return. Stay behind safety barriers and do not assume boating is possible. Return to Jagdalpur with time for a relaxed evening rather than squeezing in another long drive.
Overnight in Jagdalpur.
Set off for Tirathgarh Falls and the Kanger Valley area. The setting is quite different from Chitrakote: streams descend through a green, forested landscape and the walking routes may involve steep or slippery steps. Select viewpoints to suit the group's fitness and the weather. An authorised park excursion or cave visit can be added only when the forest department permits entry; caves may close during monsoon conditions. Return to Jagdalpur in the late afternoon, leaving the evening free to rest and repack.
Overnight in Jagdalpur.
Leave Jagdalpur after breakfast for the road journey back to Raipur. This is one of the longer travel days on the tour, so plan a few sensible breaks and avoid adding fixed sightseeing commitments. Road conditions and traffic can affect arrival time. Once back in the capital, check into the hotel and enjoy a free evening. Staying overnight in Raipur makes the final departure easier than trying to combine a long Bastar transfer with an onward flight.
Overnight in Raipur.

Your driver will transfer you to Raipur Airport or the railway station according to the confirmed departure time. The tour ends after a circuit that connects Sirpur's archaeological heritage with Barnawapara's forest, Kanker's landscapes and the waterfalls of Bastar. If you have an international flight elsewhere in India, book enough time for the domestic connection and normal airport formalities.
Tour concludes.
