This 5 Days Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kannur Tour is a compact North Kerala itinerary for travellers who want forested hills, waterfalls, reservoirs, Malabar heritage and the Arabian Sea coast in one journey. The tour begins in Kozhikode and heads into Wayanad for two nights of nature-focused sightseeing. It then returns to Kozhikode before continuing north to Kannur.
The route is useful for travellers searching for a Wayanad and North Kerala tour package that goes beyond a simple hill-station stay. Wayanad gives you misty highlands, waterfalls, viewpoints and Banasura Sagar, while Kozhikode adds maritime history, local food culture and the old Malabar coast. Kannur brings a quieter coastal finish with beaches, fort heritage and strong regional traditions.
Two full sightseeing days in Wayanad allow the itinerary to separate southern and northern attractions instead of trying to cover the entire district in a single rushed circuit. This is important because Wayanad is spread across hills and winding roads, and actual travel time can be longer than map distances suggest.
Waterfalls, viewpoints and some outdoor attractions are highly seasonal. Rain improves the landscape but can also make trails slippery, affect access and change opening conditions. Wildlife sightings should never be guaranteed, and protected areas operate according to forest-department rules, permits and local schedules.
Travellers with more time can extend the journey to Bekal for fort and beach scenery, or combine North Kerala with Coorg and Mysuru. See more options in our Kerala tour packages.
Arrive in Kozhikode by air or train and meet your driver for the journey to Wayanad. The road gradually leaves the coastal plain and climbs into the forested hills of the Western Ghats.
The drive itself introduces the changing geography of North Kerala, from busy lowland towns to greener hill roads and plantation country. Depending on your arrival time and road conditions, stop only for practical breaks and viewpoints rather than trying to force major sightseeing into the first day.
On arrival in Wayanad, check in at your hotel or resort and keep the evening relaxed. If daylight remains, take a short walk around the property or enjoy the surrounding valley and plantation views.
Planning note: Wayanad attractions are spread across a wide area. Staying in a location suited to your sightseeing plan can reduce unnecessary backtracking on Days 2 and 3.
Overnight stay in Wayanad.
After breakfast, explore the southern side of Wayanad. Today's programme focuses on the district's forested scenery, waterfalls, viewpoints and nature-based attractions.
A practical circuit may include Soochipara Falls when access is open and conditions are suitable. The waterfall is reached through a walking route that can become slippery during or after heavy rain, so footwear and local safety advice matter.
Continue through plantation and hill scenery to selected viewpoints or nature stops in the southern part of the district. Depending on the season and current access, the programme can also be adjusted towards heritage or lake-based attractions rather than forcing a closed or unsafe outdoor site.
Wayanad's roads are winding and attractions can be far apart, so avoid trying to fit too many locations into one day. A smaller number of meaningful stops gives a better experience than spending most of the day moving between car parks.
Return to your hotel in the late afternoon and keep the evening free.
Overnight stay in Wayanad.
After breakfast, explore northern Wayanad with a visit to Banasura Sagar, known for its reservoir landscape backed by the Banasura hills.
Spend time enjoying the scenery around the reservoir. Any boating or adventure activity should be treated as optional and subject to weather, water level, operator availability and local safety rules.
Continue through the northern part of the district, where the landscape includes forest patches, plantations, villages and mountain views. Depending on your interests and the day's conditions, additional stops can focus on nature, heritage or local viewpoints.
If a wildlife-related visit is considered, remember that animal sightings are never guaranteed and protected areas operate according to forest regulations, entry limits and seasonal conditions.
Return to your hotel after sightseeing. This second full day in Wayanad gives the route more depth than a one-night hill-station stop.
Overnight stay in Wayanad.
After breakfast, check out from Wayanad and descend towards Kozhikode. The journey brings you back from the highlands to the Malabar coast.
After hotel check-in, begin a relaxed Kozhikode orientation. Visit the waterfront or beach area and spend time understanding the city's long association with maritime trade and the wider history of the Malabar coast.
Kozhikode is also one of Kerala's strongest food destinations. If local cuisine interests you, use the evening to sample Malabar dishes in a reputable restaurant rather than treating food as an afterthought to sightseeing.
Depending on arrival time, you can also explore selected central-city markets or heritage areas. Keep the programme flexible so the day does not become overloaded after the drive from Wayanad.
Overnight stay in Kozhikode.
After breakfast, check out from Kozhikode and drive north towards Kannur. The final day introduces another part of the Malabar coast before your onward departure.
Depending on your departure schedule, include selected Kannur sightseeing. A useful short programme can focus on the coast, local heritage or the area around St. Angelo Fort, subject to available time and opening conditions.
Kannur is also known for strong regional cultural traditions, including Theyyam, but performances are seasonal and tied to local ritual calendars. They should never be promised on a random date without checking whether an appropriate event is actually taking place.
If time permits, enjoy a short coastal stop before continuing to the airport, railway station or agreed departure point.
Your 5 Days Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kannur Tour concludes after combining Wayanad's hills and reservoirs with the heritage, food culture and coastline of North Kerala.
Tour concludes in Kannur.
