Well Organized Trip

This 5 Days Bekal, Kasaragod and Kannur Coastal Tour is designed for travellers who want to explore the quieter northern stretch of Kerala's Arabian Sea coast. The journey starts from Mangaluru and enters North Kerala through Bekal, then explores Kasaragod before continuing south to Kannur.
The route is a good fit for travellers searching for a Bekal Kannur tour package, a North Kerala coastal itinerary, or a short trip focused on forts, beaches, backwaters and local culture. Bekal brings one of Kerala's most impressive sea-facing forts, Kasaragod adds regional heritage and estuarine landscapes, and Kannur finishes the journey with beaches, fort history and strong Malabar cultural traditions.
Unlike the better-known southern Kerala circuit, this itinerary keeps the pace slower and the destinations less crowded. It works well for repeat visitors, couples, families and travellers who want to see a different side of Kerala without long transfers into the hills.
Backwater experiences around Bekal and Kasaragod are generally smaller and more local than the classic Alleppey houseboat circuit. Boat routes and operating times can depend on tides, weather, water levels and local availability, so they should remain flexible.
Kannur is also associated with Theyyam, but performances are seasonal and tied to temple and local ritual calendars. A Theyyam experience should only be included when an authentic event is actually scheduled during the travel dates.
Travellers with more time can continue to Kozhikode or combine this route with Wayanad. Those heading north can extend into Mangaluru and Udupi. Browse more Kerala tour packages.
Arrive in Mangaluru by air or train and meet your driver for the transfer south into Kerala. Continue to Bekal, one of the most attractive coastal stops in Kasaragod district.
On arrival, check in at your hotel or beach resort and keep the first afternoon relaxed. If time permits, take a short walk near the beach or resort surroundings and enjoy the quieter coastal atmosphere.
The first day is intentionally light because the main Bekal sightseeing is planned for Day 2. This keeps the itinerary comfortable after your arrival rather than immediately forcing a full sightseeing circuit.
Travel note: Bekal is a good base for this route because it combines fort heritage, beach scenery and access to smaller backwater areas without requiring a long inland transfer.
Overnight stay in Bekal.
After breakfast, begin with a visit to Bekal Fort, the landmark most strongly associated with Bekal. The large laterite fort sits directly beside the Arabian Sea and offers broad coastal views from its ramparts and observation points.
Take time to walk through the fort rather than treating it as a quick photo stop. The sea-facing walls, open grounds and defensive layout make the setting as important as the individual structures inside.
Later, continue to the nearby coast or beach area for a slower break before the backwater section of the day. Depending on local availability, enjoy a small-boat or locally operated backwater experience through quieter waterways around the Bekal region.
Backwater routes here are generally more intimate than the large houseboat circuits of South Kerala. Expect canals, coconut-lined banks, village edges and estuarine landscapes rather than a fixed sightseeing checklist.
Practical note: boat timing and routes can be affected by tides, weather, water levels and operator availability, so the exact experience should remain flexible.
Overnight stay in Bekal.
After breakfast, set out to explore Kasaragod and the surrounding district. This day adds local heritage and inland character to a tour that otherwise focuses strongly on the coast.
The sightseeing programme can include selected heritage, temple or scenic sites depending on your interests and the route planned by your local guide. Kasaragod district has a varied cultural landscape influenced by Kerala and neighbouring Karnataka.
If active temples are included, follow local dress and visitor rules. Interior access can vary by temple, visitor eligibility and festival schedules, so it should not be guaranteed in advance without checking.
Use the day to understand the district rather than simply drive between widely scattered attractions. A focused combination of heritage, local town life and selected landscapes will usually be more rewarding.
Return to Bekal in the evening and relax at the hotel or beach.
Overnight stay in Bekal.
After breakfast, check out from Bekal and travel south along the Malabar coast towards Kannur.
On arrival, check in at your hotel and begin a relaxed introduction to the city and coastline. Depending on the timing, visit a beach area or the surroundings of St. Angelo Fort, one of Kannur's most important historic landmarks.
Kannur has a strong connection with regional culture, weaving, ritual traditions and the wider history of the Malabar coast. Keep the day broad enough to include both heritage and beach time rather than treating the city as just an overnight stop.
If a Theyyam event is taking place during your dates and the timing is practical, it may be possible to plan an authentic local experience. Theyyam follows temple and community calendars, so it should never be staged or guaranteed on arbitrary dates.
Overnight stay in Kannur.
After breakfast, continue selected sightseeing in Kannur before your onward departure.
A practical morning can include St. Angelo Fort if it was not visited on Day 4, followed by a coastal stop or local market area. Depending on your departure point, the itinerary can be adjusted to keep sightseeing within a sensible distance of the airport or railway station.
If your travel dates coincide with an authentic cultural event, your local team can advise whether it fits the schedule. Otherwise, the day should focus on Kannur's heritage and coast rather than adding an artificial cultural performance.
At the appropriate time, transfer to Kannur International Airport, the railway station or your agreed onward departure point.
Your 5 Days Bekal, Kasaragod and Kannur Coastal Tour concludes after combining Bekal Fort, quieter North Kerala backwaters, Kasaragod's regional heritage and the beaches and cultural character of Kannur.
Tour concludes in Kannur.
