The Church of St Marys Basilica Church is located in Champakulam. It is a catholic Forane church termed as a minor Basilica and typifies in its basic architectural pattern the shape of Rome's four main basilicas. A rectangular building with a stunning white façade with a central nave is flanked by longitudinal hubs on both sides, giving it the cross's shape. The structure is based on Portuguese style. The roof of the central hallway is beautifully embellished with floral patterns in different colors, and the main altar is adorned by the mother Mary with a rose in her hand. It is believed that this ancient church was built by St Thomas himself in AD 427.
