Officials stated on Saturday that the Odisha government plans to launch boating services at 100 spots by the end of the year in order to increase tourism in the state.

Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra, during a high-level meeting, instructed the departments of Forest and Environment, Water Resources, and Tourism to select the locations within a month, according to reports.

Mohapatra instructed the concerned officials to begin the operations before the end of the year. The places should be chosen based on their likelihood of being popular with visitors and must provide unique experiences, he said.

The chief secretary stated, “Proper location selection and popularisation will attract private investment to the sector, taking the state’s eco-tourism business to the next level.”

He also advised officials to implement necessary safety measures and urged that they adopt a community management approach by incorporating people and providing them with appropriate training.

Hirakud, Mandira, Patora, Deras, and Hadgarh are among the 118 large and small dams in Odisha. Chilika, Ansupa, Pata, and Kanjia, Hiarkud are some of the state’s natural lakes.

There are also eight significant river basins, including the Mahanadi, Brahmani, and Baitarani, according to an official. He claims that these areas have a plethora of boating opportunities.
