UPI Payments will simplify payments for Indian tourists in Europe

Europe

We have some good news to share with you if you are planning a trip to Europe soon. In order to offer Indian tourists the ability to make payments by using the United Payments Interface (UPI) in Europe, the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI’s) international leg (NIPL) has partnered with Worldline, a European payment services facilitator, in order to offer them the possibility to make payments by using the United Payments Interface (UPI). This is how it works. Here is what you need to know.

Indian tourists will be able to pay in Europe using UPI

A significant point that we would like to make is that NPCI facilitates all digital payments throughout India, and the international branch of the organization (NIPL) has partnered with Worldline in order to provide Indian travelers with a way to use the UPI system throughout Europe. As a result of this, travellers on the continent will have an easier time getting to and from the continent as a result of this. This will also boost the footfall of Indian tourists to the area, giving it a boost in terms of revenue.

There is a QR-code-based mechanism used by Worldline which will allow its point-of-sale system to accept UPI payments directly from Indian travelers’ smartphones to their point-of-sale system.

Besides that, Indians will also be able to use their RuPay debit and credit cards in Europe, which is a significant step forward for Indians. In a report by Business Standard, it was reported that a joint statement was released on October 11 by NIPL and Worldline. This statement confirmed that the partnership was intended to expand the acceptance of Indian payment methods across Europe through the development of a partnership. By bringing more Indian tourists to the country, we will bring a multitude of customer-related benefits to Indian merchants due to the increased footfall and spending they will be able to generate.”

How does this affect travelers?

The Indians will be able to travel to Europe much easier now than they were before. In the current state of things, visitors to the site use various types of cards or cash to make payments. However, the UPI system will allow them to have access to multiple accounts with just one app while using one single card.

The first destinations where UPI and RuPay will be accepted are Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg (BENELUX), and Switzerland. This will be extended to other destinations as well.
