Well Organized Trip
We appreciated our travel design er (Ovijit) was able to customize our trip to add in additional stops and tailor our hotels to what we were looking for.
This 8 Days Tawang and Bumla Pass Tour is a well-paced western Arunachal Pradesh journey for travellers who want more than the standard Tawang circuit. Starting from Guwahati, the route travels through Bhalukpong to Dirang, includes a dedicated excursion to Sangti Valley, crosses Sela Pass to Tawang, and allows a full day for the high-altitude Bumla Pass sector before returning through Bomdila.
The itinerary is designed around searches for an 8 days Tawang tour, Tawang Bumla Pass tour from Guwahati, Arunachal Pradesh itinerary 8 days and Dirang Tawang tour package. It combines mountain landscapes, Buddhist heritage, Monpa culture, high passes and border-region scenery in a logical road itinerary.
The additional day in Dirang gives this route an advantage over faster Tawang itineraries. Travellers have time to experience Sangti Valley before climbing towards the higher-altitude landscapes around Sela Pass and Tawang.
The Bumla Pass excursion is highly dependent on local permits, weather, road conditions and security restrictions. It should therefore be treated as a permit-dependent excursion rather than a guaranteed inclusion regardless of conditions.
Tawang and the Bumla sector are at high altitude. Travellers should keep the schedule measured, stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary physical exertion if they are feeling unwell.
For a longer journey, this itinerary can be combined with Ziro Valley or other Arunachal Pradesh tour packages.
Arrive at Guwahati Airport or railway station and meet your driver for the road journey towards Bhalukpong, near the western entry point into Arunachal Pradesh.
Travel across the Assam plains before the scenery begins to change near the Himalayan foothills. Keep your required Arunachal entry documents and identification easily accessible during the journey.
On arrival in Bhalukpong, check in at the hotel and rest. If time permits, enjoy a short walk near the river or around the local settlement.
Keep the first day light because the following stages involve winding mountain roads.
Overnight stay in Bhalukpong.
After breakfast, leave Bhalukpong and begin the scenic ascent towards Dirang.
The journey gradually enters mountain country with river valleys, forested slopes and small settlements along the route.
Stop at suitable viewpoints and local places depending on road conditions and available daylight. The aim is to keep the journey comfortable rather than rushing directly to the hotel.
On arrival in Dirang, check in and explore the nearby village or monastery area if time permits.
Dirang is an important acclimatisation stop before the route climbs towards Sela Pass.
Overnight stay in Dirang.
Today is dedicated to exploring the landscape around Dirang without another long transfer.
Drive to Sangti Valley, known for its broad mountain setting, river scenery, farmland and quieter rural atmosphere.
Spend time walking through suitable village areas and observing the agricultural landscape. The valley is best experienced slowly rather than as a quick photo stop.
Depending on the season and local conditions, birdlife may also be seen, but specific wildlife or bird sightings should never be guaranteed.
Return to Dirang and visit selected local attractions such as the monastery, old village or hot-water spring area where access is suitable.
Overnight stay in Dirang.
After breakfast, leave Dirang and continue towards Tawang.
The road climbs towards Sela Pass, one of the most dramatic high-altitude points on the route. Visibility and road conditions depend heavily on weather.
Continue to Jaswant Garh War Memorial before descending through the mountain landscape towards Tawang.
If current road conditions allow, stop near Nuranang Falls or another suitable viewpoint en route.
On arrival in Tawang, check in at the hotel and keep the evening relaxed to allow time for acclimatisation.
Overnight stay in Tawang.
Today is planned for the high-altitude excursion from Tawang towards Bumla Pass.
The journey normally passes through dramatic mountain terrain and a number of high-altitude lakes. Stops can be made at suitable points depending on current access and road conditions.
Bumla Pass lies in a restricted border region. The excursion requires separate local permission and is subject to security clearance, weather, snow and road conditions. It cannot be guaranteed simply because it appears in the itinerary.
Keep physical activity moderate because the altitude is considerably higher than Tawang town. If anyone feels unwell, the excursion should be shortened or abandoned.
Return to Tawang in the afternoon or evening and rest at the hotel.
Overnight stay in Tawang.
After the previous day’s high-altitude excursion, today focuses on the cultural and historical attractions of Tawang town.
Visit Tawang Monastery, the region’s most important Buddhist institution. Explore the publicly accessible areas while respecting prayer spaces and local religious customs.
Continue to Tawang War Memorial and learn about the region’s military history and the events of 1962.
Later, visit Urgelling Monastery and explore the local market, smaller religious sites or viewpoints depending on available time.
Keep the late afternoon free to enjoy Tawang at a slower pace before the next day’s long road journey.
Overnight stay in Tawang.
After breakfast, check out from Tawang and begin the return drive towards Bomdila.
Retrace the mountain road across the Sela region, with rest and photography stops where conditions permit.
Because mountain roads can be affected by weather and traffic, avoid fixing too many sightseeing stops into the transfer day.
On arrival in Bomdila, check in at the hotel and visit Bomdila Monastery if time and opening conditions permit.
Overnight stay in Bomdila.
After an early breakfast, leave Bomdila and begin the long drive back to Guwahati.
The route descends from the Himalayan foothills to the Assam plains. Allow adequate time for rest stops and possible delays along the way.
Your onward flight or train should be planned with a comfortable buffer because mountain-road travel times are not always predictable.
On arrival in Guwahati, transfer to the airport or railway station for departure.
Your 8 Days Tawang and Bumla Pass Tour concludes after exploring Bhalukpong, Dirang, Sangti Valley, Sela Pass, Tawang, Bumla Pass and Bomdila.
Tour concludes in Guwahati.
