This 8 Days Assam and Meghalaya Tour combines the waterfalls, limestone landscapes and Khasi cultural areas of Meghalaya with a wildlife stay at Kaziranga National Park in Assam. Starting from Guwahati, the route travels first to Cherrapunji, then continues through Mawlynnong, Dawki and Shillong before crossing into Assam for Kaziranga.

Kaziranga wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Safari operations depend on park opening dates, zone allocation, weather, forest regulations and natural animal movement.

Detailed Itinerary
Arrive at Guwahati Airport or railway station and meet your driver for the journey into Meghalaya towards Cherrapunji, also widely known as Sohra.
This is the longest transfer at the beginning of the tour, so keep the programme focused on the road journey rather than adding extensive sightseeing.
As you enter Meghalaya, the landscape changes from the Assam plains to rolling hills, deep valleys and forested slopes.
On arrival in Cherrapunji, check in at your hotel and rest. If daylight and weather permit, enjoy a nearby viewpoint before sunset.
Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.
Spend the day exploring Cherrapunji and its dramatic plateau and valley landscapes.
Visit selected waterfalls and viewpoints according to season and visibility. Nohkalikai Falls and other major viewpoints can be included when conditions are suitable.
Explore a publicly accessible limestone cave if included in the final programme. Wear footwear with good grip because cave surfaces can be wet and uneven.
Continue to additional valley viewpoints or local Khasi cultural areas depending on available time and weather.
Waterfall volume and visibility vary by season, so individual natural attractions should not be presented as looking identical throughout the year.
Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.
After breakfast, leave Cherrapunji and travel towards Mawlynnong, one of the better-known Khasi villages in southern Meghalaya.
Explore the village respectfully and visit a nearby living root bridge where included. These are living structures used by local communities and should be treated with care.
Continue towards Dawki and the Umngot River. When boating is operating and local conditions are safe, an optional boat ride can be included.
River clarity varies considerably with rain and season, so crystal-clear water should never be guaranteed.
Later, continue to Shillong and check in at your hotel.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
Today combines an excursion to Mawphlang with sightseeing in Shillong.
Travel to the Mawphlang Sacred Forest area and explore it with a local guide where available. The forest has strong cultural significance for Khasi communities.
Follow local rules carefully and do not remove plants, stones or other natural material from sacred forest areas.
Return towards Shillong and visit selected attractions such as viewpoints, gardens, cultural sites or local markets according to time.
Spend the evening at leisure in Shillong.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, leave Meghalaya and begin the road journey into Assam towards Kaziranga National Park.
This is a substantial transfer day as the route descends from the Khasi Hills and crosses the Assam plains.
Stop for meals and short breaks as required, but keep the day focused on reaching Kaziranga comfortably.
On arrival, check in at your wildlife lodge or hotel and rest.
Your safari timing and zone will depend on park operations, permits and local allocation.
Overnight stay in Kaziranga.
Spend the day around Kaziranga National Park, one of Assam’s most important wildlife landscapes.
Join a scheduled jeep safari in the zone allocated locally, subject to park opening, permit availability and forest regulations.
The grasslands, wetlands and woodland support a wide range of wildlife and birdlife, but no particular animal sighting can be guaranteed.
Depending on safari timing, use the remaining part of the day for a nearby tea-garden landscape, local village area or a second safari if separately arranged and available.
Follow park rules and maintain appropriate distance from all wild animals.
Overnight stay in Kaziranga.
After breakfast, check out from Kaziranga and begin the road journey back to Guwahati.
Drive across the Assam plains, with suitable meal and rest stops along the route.
On arrival in Guwahati, check in at your hotel and keep the evening relaxed.
If arrival time permits, explore a local market or riverside area without adding an overly ambitious sightseeing programme.
Overnight stay in Guwahati.
After breakfast, check out from your Guwahati hotel according to your onward schedule.
If your departure is later in the day, selected Guwahati sightseeing can be added according to available time.
Transfer to Guwahati Airport or railway station for your onward journey.
