Well Organized Trip
We appreciated our travel designer (Ovijit) was able to customize our trip to add in additional stops and tailor our hotels to what we were looking for.
This 7 Days Ujjain, Mandu, Dhar, Indore and Burhanpur Tour is designed for travellers who want to discover a less conventional side of Madhya Pradesh. The route begins with the living temple traditions of Ujjain, moves through historic Dhar to Mandu, continues to Indore, and finishes in Burhanpur and Asirgarh.
Instead of concentrating only on Madhya Pradesh's most famous attractions, this itinerary connects sacred cities, medieval architecture, Malwa heritage and the historic Deccan gateway of Burhanpur. It works particularly well for travellers interested in forts, old cities, architecture, religious history and places that see fewer international visitors.
Two days around Mandu allow you to experience the former fortified city at a comfortable pace, including its Royal Enclave, central monuments and southern sites. Dhar adds context to the wider Malwa region, while Indore provides a useful transition before travelling south to Burhanpur.
Burhanpur gives the itinerary a distinctive finish with Mughal-era history, old-city landmarks and the nearby hill fortress of Asirgarh. Travellers who want a longer journey can combine this route with Omkareshwar, Maheshwar or Bhopal.
Arrive in Ujjain and meet your representative for transfer to the hotel. After check-in, take some time to rest before beginning a relaxed introduction to this important pilgrimage city.
Depending on arrival time and temple schedules, visit the Mahakaleshwar area or explore selected nearby sacred sites. Temple queues and darshan arrangements can change, so the programme is kept flexible rather than rushed.
In the evening, experience the old-city atmosphere or spend time near one of Ujjain's sacred riverfront areas before returning to the hotel.
Overnight stay in Ujjain.
After breakfast, spend a full day exploring Ujjain beyond a single temple visit. The sightseeing programme can include major temples, sacred ghats and heritage areas depending on local timings.
Your guide will help explain Ujjain's importance in Hindu pilgrimage, mythology, astronomy and the wider cultural history of the Malwa region. This makes the day useful for both pilgrims and travellers interested in understanding the city rather than simply visiting individual shrines.
Allow time to walk through parts of the old city and observe everyday religious life before returning to the hotel.
Overnight stay in Ujjain.
After breakfast, check out and drive towards Dhar, a historic town connected with the cultural and political history of the Malwa region.
Visit selected heritage landmarks in Dhar according to available time, then continue to Mandu, dramatically positioned on a plateau above the surrounding countryside.
On arrival, check in at your hotel. If daylight permits, enjoy a short orientation visit or viewpoint before the main Mandu sightseeing programme the following day.
Overnight stay in Mandu.
Spend the day exploring the principal monuments of Mandu. Begin with the Royal Enclave, where palaces, pavilions and water structures reveal how the former court used the plateau landscape.
Continue to the central monument group, where important mosques, tombs and civic buildings demonstrate a different side of Mandu's architecture.
Rather than trying to see every monument quickly, the day is planned at a comfortable pace with time for historical explanation, photography and views across the surrounding Malwa countryside.
Overnight stay in Mandu.
After breakfast, continue exploring Mandu with a focus on monuments and viewpoints in the southern part of the historic city.
This second sightseeing session is useful because Mandu covers a wide area. It allows you to visit pavilions and smaller sites that are often missed on fast day trips from Indore.
Later, leave Mandu and drive to Indore. On arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure. If you are interested in local food, Indore's market culture can be included according to available time.
Overnight stay in Indore.
After breakfast, check out and begin the road journey south to Burhanpur, an important historic city that developed along major routes connecting northern India with the Deccan.
On arrival, check in at your hotel and begin exploring selected monuments according to available daylight. Burhanpur's historic character includes old neighbourhoods, religious monuments and architectural remains associated with its strategic position.
The city receives fewer leisure travellers than destinations such as Ujjain or Mandu, making it particularly interesting for visitors who enjoy less commercialised heritage locations.
Overnight stay in Burhanpur.
After breakfast, continue sightseeing in Burhanpur, visiting selected historic monuments and old-city areas according to your interests and onward schedule.
Later, travel to Asirgarh Fort, a hill fortress historically associated with the important route between northern India and the Deccan. Explore the fort area and enjoy views of the surrounding landscape.
After the visit, transfer to your agreed departure point or continue your onward journey according to the final travel arrangement.
Your 7-day Ujjain, Mandu, Dhar, Indore and Burhanpur tour concludes after connecting spiritual Ujjain, medieval Malwa architecture and the lesser-known historical landscapes of southern Madhya Pradesh.
Tour concludes after the Burhanpur and Asirgarh sightseeing programme.
