Well Organized Trip
We appreciated our travel designer (Ovijit) was able to customize our trip to add in additional stops and tailor our hotels to what we were looking for.
This 7 Days Kaziranga, Majuli and Shillong Tour brings together three of the most distinctive experiences in Northeast India: wildlife in Kaziranga National Park, river-island culture in Majuli and the hill landscapes of Shillong and Cherrapunji.
Starting from Guwahati, the journey first moves east to Kaziranga for safari experiences, then continues through Jorhat to Majuli for satras, village culture and Brahmaputra landscapes. The final section crosses into Meghalaya for Shillong, Cherrapunji and Umiam Lake, making this a strong Assam and Meghalaya 7-day itinerary.
Kaziranga safaris depend on park opening, permits, weather, forest regulations and the assigned range. Wildlife sightings are natural and can never be guaranteed.
Majuli ferry operations depend on Brahmaputra river conditions, weather and local schedules. Crossing points and departure times can change, so the itinerary should remain flexible.
The Jorhat to Shillong sector is a long overland transfer and is best kept mostly travel-focused. This helps preserve enough time for a proper Cherrapunji excursion the following day.
Cherrapunji’s waterfall volume and viewpoints vary by season, while rain and mist may affect visibility.
Meet your driver in Guwahati and begin the road journey east towards Kaziranga National Park.
Travel through the Assam plains, passing towns, agricultural areas and rural landscapes.
On arrival in Kaziranga, check in at your hotel or wildlife lodge and rest.
Safari timing and permit details for the next day should be confirmed according to current forest-department arrangements.
Overnight stay in Kaziranga.
Begin the day with a scheduled safari inside Kaziranga National Park.
Explore the assigned park range by authorised safari vehicle according to permits and forest rules.
The park’s grasslands, wetlands and woodland support one-horned rhinoceros, wild buffalo, elephants, deer and many bird species, though no specific sighting can be guaranteed.
Return to the lodge for rest between safari sessions.
If confirmed, take a second safari in the afternoon in the permitted range.
Spend the evening at leisure around your lodge.
Overnight stay in Kaziranga.
After breakfast, check out from Kaziranga and drive towards Jorhat.
Continue to the locally operating river-crossing point for Majuli Island.
Ferry schedules and boarding points can vary with river level, weather and local operations, so the transfer should remain flexible.
After crossing to Majuli, continue to your accommodation and settle into the island’s quieter rural setting.
If daylight permits, take a short village walk or enjoy the surrounding river-island landscape.
Overnight stay in Majuli.
Spend the morning exploring the cultural landscape of Majuli Island.
Visit selected satras where public access is permitted and learn about Assam’s Vaishnavite religious, artistic and performing traditions.
Depending on the programme, also visit villages associated with weaving, mask-making, pottery or other traditional crafts.
Respect local customs at active religious institutions and community spaces.
Later, return to the ferry point and cross back towards Jorhat according to the operating schedule.
Transfer to your Jorhat hotel and relax in the evening.
Overnight stay in Jorhat.
After breakfast, leave Jorhat and begin the long road journey towards Shillong.
Travel west through Assam before turning towards Meghalaya and climbing into the Khasi Hills.
Keep this as a transfer-focused day, with only practical meal and rest stops.
On arrival in Shillong, check in at your hotel and spend the evening at leisure.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, leave Shillong for a full-day excursion to Cherrapunji.
Travel through the Khasi Hills and stop at selected viewpoints when weather and visibility permit.
Visit seasonal waterfalls and natural attractions around Cherrapunji, including Nohkalikai Falls where access and visibility are suitable.
A publicly accessible limestone cave can be included according to available time and conditions.
Return to Shillong by evening.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, check out from your Shillong hotel and begin the return journey towards Guwahati.
Stop at Umiam Lake if weather and your departure schedule permit.
Continue down from Meghalaya into the Assam plains and drive towards Guwahati.
Maintain a comfortable buffer before your onward flight or train.
Transfer to Guwahati Airport or railway station for departure.
Your 7 Days Kaziranga, Majuli and Shillong Tour concludes after combining Assam wildlife, Majuli culture and Meghalaya’s hill landscapes.
Tour concludes in Guwahati.
