Tour Overview

This 6 Days Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey Tour brings together three of Kerala's most popular landscapes in one practical route. The journey starts in Kochi and moves into Munnar for tea gardens and mountain scenery, continues to Thekkady for spice plantations and the Periyar forest environment, and finishes in Alleppey with Kerala's classic backwaters.

The route is designed around strong traveller search intent for a Munnar Thekkady Alleppey itinerary, 6 days Kerala tour, and Kerala hill, wildlife and houseboat package. Each destination adds a different experience: Munnar is about highland tea country, Thekkady about spice-growing hills and protected forest, while Alleppey is about canals, paddy landscapes and life on the water.

The pacing is deliberately balanced. Two nights in Munnar allow a proper sightseeing day. Thekkady receives a full nature-focused day instead of being treated as a quick transfer stop, and Alleppey is reserved for a dedicated houseboat experience rather than squeezing the backwaters into a few hours.

Periyar experiences must remain realistic. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and activities depend on permits, availability, weather and current reserve regulations. The value of the visit also comes from the forest, lake, birdlife and plantation landscape.

Houseboat quality in Alleppey varies considerably. Cabin category, private or shared operation, air-conditioning policy, meal plan and boarding point should all be confirmed before booking. Boats generally cruise during daylight hours and remain moored later in the day.

Travellers who prefer a quieter backwater stay can add Kumarakom after Alleppey. Those with more time in the hills can extend through Idukki. Browse more Kerala tour packages for longer routes.

Detailed Itinerary

Arrive in Kochi and meet your driver for the journey to Munnar. The road gradually climbs from the coastal plain into the Western Ghats.

As you gain elevation, the landscape becomes greener, with forested slopes, plantation country and cooler mountain air. Depending on your arrival time and road conditions, short scenic or refreshment stops can be made along the way.

On arrival in Munnar, check in at your hotel and keep the evening free. If daylight remains, take a short walk or enjoy tea-slope views near the property.

Planning note: if your Kochi arrival is late, it is usually better to stay in Kochi and start the hill drive the following morning.

Overnight stay in Munnar.

After breakfast, spend a full day exploring Munnar. The aim is to experience the tea-country landscape without turning the day into a rushed list of widely scattered attractions.

Visit Mattupetty Dam, enjoy the reservoir scenery and continue towards Echo Point and selected nearby viewpoints, subject to weather and road conditions.

Spend time among the tea estates and consider a tea museum or authorised plantation visit where open. A useful visit should explain tea cultivation, plucking and processing.

If Eravikulam National Park is included, entry remains subject to seasonal conservation closures, ticket availability and current visitor rules.

Return to the hotel in the evening and relax.

After breakfast, check out from Munnar and travel to Thekkady. The route crosses Kerala's spice-growing highlands, with plantations and forested slopes along the way.

On arrival, check in at your hotel and take some time to rest. Later, visit a local spice plantation or spice garden where a guide can explain crops such as cardamom, pepper and cinnamon.

A plantation visit is most useful when it focuses on cultivation and farming practices rather than becoming only a retail stop.

In the evening, explore the local market or consider an optional cultural performance if it fits your interests and schedule.

Overnight stay in Thekkady.

Today is reserved for the natural environment around Periyar Tiger Reserve. The exact experience should be selected according to current authorised activities, permits and local schedules.

One option is time around Periyar Lake, where authorised boat services may operate according to fixed timings and availability. The forested shoreline can offer opportunities to observe birds and wildlife, but sightings are never guaranteed.

Travellers wanting a more active programme can consider approved eco-tourism activities where available. These may involve guided walking or other forest-based experiences and often require advance booking.

Periyar should not be promoted as a guaranteed tiger-sighting destination. The value of the visit lies in the forest, lake, birdlife and protected ecosystem as much as in direct animal encounters.

Return to the hotel after the scheduled activity and keep the evening free.

Overnight stay in Thekkady.

Periyar nature experience Thekkady Kerala

After breakfast, check out from Thekkady and travel towards Alleppey. The drive takes you down from the highlands into Kerala's low-lying backwater region.

On arrival, board your pre-booked houseboat according to the operator's check-in schedule. Settle into the cabin before the cruise begins.

As you move through the waterways, watch coconut-lined canals, village homes, small ferries, local boats and low-lying paddy fields. This slower landscape is a clear contrast to the hills of Munnar and Thekkady.

Meals are generally prepared onboard according to the booked plan. Dietary requirements should be communicated in advance.

Houseboats typically cruise during permitted daylight hours and remain moored later in the day. Exact route and docking point depend on water conditions, local navigation rules and operator schedules.

Overnight stay on an Alleppey houseboat.

After breakfast on the houseboat, complete the morning cruise and disembark according to the operator's schedule.

Meet your driver and continue to Kochi. The departure transfer will be planned around your flight or train timing.

If you have a late departure, a short Fort Kochi or shopping stop can be added, but avoid a distant excursion that could create unnecessary pressure.

At the appropriate time, transfer to Kochi International Airport or railway station for your onward journey.

Your 6 Days Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey Tour concludes after combining Munnar's tea hills, Thekkady's spice and forest environment, Periyar's protected landscape and Alleppey's famous backwaters.

Tour concludes in Kochi.
