Well Organized Trip
We appreciated our travel designer (Ovijit) was able to customize our trip to add in additional stops and tailor our hotels to what we were looking for.
This 6 Days Meghalaya Family Tour is designed for families who want a comfortable first trip to Meghalaya without overly long sightseeing days. Starting from Guwahati, the journey includes Shillong, Cherrapunji, Mawlynnong, Dawki and Krang Suri Falls before returning to Guwahati.
The itinerary targets searches such as Meghalaya family tour package, 6 days Meghalaya itinerary, Shillong Cherrapunji Dawki family tour and Meghalaya tour from Guwahati. The route balances viewpoints, waterfalls, local villages and short nature stops with enough time to avoid rushing children or older family members.
The trip begins with a visit to Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati before entering the Khasi Hills. Temple access and darshan timing can vary with crowds, festivals and local rules.
Meghalaya’s waterfalls and river experiences are seasonal. Dawki boating, Krang Suri access and waterfall volume depend on weather, water conditions and local operations.
Families should use comfortable footwear for uneven paths and living-root-bridge areas, and avoid slippery sections during or immediately after heavy rain.
Travellers who want a longer route can combine this with other Meghalaya tour packages or add Assam wildlife destinations such as Kaziranga.
Arrive at Guwahati Airport or railway station and meet your driver for the first day of the Meghalaya family tour.
Visit Kamakhya Temple if your arrival time permits. The temple is an active pilgrimage site, and darshan time can vary depending on crowds, festivals and local arrangements.
Continue towards Shillong, entering the Khasi Hills and stopping at a suitable viewpoint or at Umiam Lake if time allows.
On arrival, check in at your hotel and keep the evening relaxed after the journey.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
Spend the day exploring Shillong and selected attractions around the city.
Visit family-friendly stops such as gardens, viewpoints, cultural areas or local markets according to your interests and opening conditions.
Later, drive towards Laitlum Canyon for broad views over the Khasi Hills. Visibility can vary with cloud and rain.
Paths near viewpoints may be uneven or slippery, so children and older travellers should use suitable footwear and avoid exposed edges.
Return to Shillong and spend the evening at leisure.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, leave Shillong and travel towards Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra.
The journey passes through rolling hills, deep valleys and several scenic viewpoints. Stop where weather and visibility are suitable.
On arrival, visit selected waterfalls and viewpoints such as Nohkalikai Falls depending on season and local conditions.
If your family is comfortable with uneven surfaces, include a publicly accessible limestone cave. Good-grip footwear is recommended because cave floors can be wet.
Check in at your Cherrapunji hotel and relax in the evening.
Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.
After breakfast, leave Cherrapunji and travel towards Mawlynnong.
Walk through the village respectfully and continue to a nearby single-decker living root bridge where included in the programme.
The approach can involve uneven or wet paths, so families should judge the walk according to the age and mobility of each traveller.
Continue towards Dawki and the Umngot River. A boat ride can be included only when officially operating and when local water and weather conditions are safe.
Water clarity varies throughout the year and should not be guaranteed.
Overnight stay in Dawki or nearby Shnongpdeng, according to the final hotel plan.
After breakfast, leave the Dawki area and travel towards Krang Suri Falls.
Walk to the accessible viewing area and enjoy the waterfall landscape. Trail conditions can be slippery after rain, so use suitable footwear.
Swimming or entering the water should only be considered where officially permitted and when local safety guidance allows it.
Continue back to Shillong, with short rest stops as needed.
Check in at your hotel and spend the final evening in Meghalaya at leisure.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, check out from Shillong and begin the return journey to Guwahati.
