Well Organized Trip
We appreciated our travel designer (Ovijit) was able to customize our trip to add in additional stops and tailor our hotels to what we were looking for.
This 6 Days Meghalaya Adventure Tour is designed for travellers who want a more active version of the classic Shillong and Cherrapunji circuit. Starting from Guwahati, the route travels to Shillong, then continues to Dawki and Shnongpdeng before reaching Cherrapunji for the Double Decker Living Root Bridge trek.
The itinerary targets searches such as 6 days Meghalaya adventure tour, Dawki Shnongpdeng itinerary, Double Decker Root Bridge trek package and Meghalaya adventure tour from Guwahati. It combines river landscapes, village stays, trekking and Khasi cultural heritage in a compact but more active route.
The Double Decker Living Root Bridge trek is physically demanding compared with normal sightseeing. Travellers should be comfortable with long stair sections, uneven paths and humid conditions.
Dawki and Shnongpdeng river activities depend on weather, water level and local operating conditions. Boating or other water activities should only be included when officially operating and considered safe.
Mawphlang Sacred Forest has strong cultural significance for Khasi communities. Visitors should follow the local guide’s instructions and avoid removing any natural object from the forest.
Travellers wanting a softer route can choose other Meghalaya tour packages without the long root-bridge trek.
Arrive at Guwahati Airport or railway station and meet your driver for the journey towards Shillong.
The road climbs gradually from the Assam plains into the Khasi Hills, with changing scenery along the way.
Stop at Umiam Lake if time, visibility and local access permit.
On arrival in Shillong, check in at your hotel and keep the evening relaxed before the more active days ahead.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, leave Shillong and travel towards Dawki near the India-Bangladesh border.
Visit the Umngot River and enjoy the valley scenery. A boat ride can be included when local operations, water level and weather conditions are suitable.
Continue to Shnongpdeng, a quieter riverside village upstream from Dawki.
Depending on local operations and your comfort level, optional activities may be available, but all water-based experiences should follow local safety instructions.
Spend the evening enjoying the riverside setting rather than rushing back to Shillong.
Overnight stay in Shnongpdeng or Dawki.
After breakfast, leave Shnongpdeng and travel towards Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra.
The route passes through southern Meghalaya’s hills, valleys and village landscapes.
On arrival in Cherrapunji, visit selected viewpoints or waterfalls depending on weather, visibility and available time.
Keep the afternoon moderately paced and prepare for the physically demanding trek planned for the following morning.
Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.
Start early for the full-day trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in the Nongriat area.
The route includes a large number of steps, steep sections, suspension bridges and humid forest paths. It is considerably more demanding than normal Meghalaya sightseeing.
Carry drinking water, light snacks and suitable rain protection when needed. Footwear with good grip is essential.
Spend time at the living root bridge and surrounding village area, while respecting local residents and community spaces.
Return carefully to the starting point and transfer back to your hotel. Travellers with mobility concerns should consider an alternative sightseeing programme.
Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.
After breakfast, leave Cherrapunji and travel towards Mawphlang.
Explore the Mawphlang Sacred Forest with a local guide where available. The forest has deep cultural significance within Khasi traditions.
Follow local rules carefully. Visitors should not remove leaves, stones, flowers or other natural material from the sacred forest.
Continue to Shillong and visit selected local attractions if time and energy permit.
Spend the final evening at leisure.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, check out from Shillong and begin the return drive towards Guwahati.
Stop at Umiam Lake if it was not visited on arrival day, subject to weather and available time.
Continue towards Guwahati and maintain a comfortable buffer before your onward flight or train.
Transfer to Guwahati Airport or railway station for departure.
Your 6 Days Meghalaya Adventure Tour concludes after exploring Dawki, Shnongpdeng, Cherrapunji, the Double Decker Living Root Bridge and Mawphlang.
Tour concludes in Guwahati.
