Tour Overview
This 5 Days Guwahati, Kaziranga and Shillong Tour combines Assam wildlife with the best-known landscapes of Meghalaya in one compact Northeast India journey. The tour begins in Guwahati before travelling to Kaziranga National Park for a wildlife safari, then continues to Shillong.
A full-day excursion to Cherrapunji adds waterfalls, viewpoints and limestone scenery, while Umiam Lake provides a final scenic stop before returning to Guwahati. This route is suitable for travellers who want both Kaziranga wildlife and Meghalaya hill scenery without extending the trip beyond five days.
Kaziranga safari operations depend on park opening, permits, weather, forest rules and the zone allocated for the day. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed because animal movement is completely natural.
The transfer between Kaziranga and Shillong is one of the longer road sectors in this itinerary, so Day 3 is kept primarily as a travel day with light sightseeing only if practical.
Cherrapunji weather can change quickly. Rain, mist and cloud may affect visibility, and waterfall volume varies significantly by season.
Travellers with more time can add Majuli, Manas or other Assam destinations, or compare this route with longer Meghalaya tour packages.

Detailed Itinerary
Arrive at Guwahati Airport or railway station and meet your driver for the start of your Assam and Meghalaya journey.
If arrival time permits, stop briefly at the Brahmaputra riverfront for a first view of the river and Guwahati’s urban waterfront.
Later, begin the road journey towards Kaziranga National Park, travelling east through the Assam plains.
On arrival, check in at your hotel or wildlife lodge and rest after the journey.
Safari timing and zone allocation for the following day should be confirmed according to current park arrangements and permit availability.
Overnight stay in Kaziranga.
Begin the day with your scheduled wildlife experience inside Kaziranga National Park.
Depending on permits and the operating season, explore an assigned park range by authorised safari vehicle.
Kaziranga is known for its floodplain grasslands, wetlands and forest patches, which support a wide variety of wildlife and birdlife.
Sightings may include one-horned rhinoceros, deer, wild buffalo, elephants and birds, but no particular species can ever be guaranteed.
If a second safari is arranged, it will depend on permit availability, park regulations and the final tour plan.
Spend the evening at leisure around your lodge.
Overnight stay in Kaziranga.
After breakfast, check out from your Kaziranga hotel and begin the road journey towards Shillong.
The route crosses Assam before gradually climbing into the hills of Meghalaya.
This is a longer transfer day, so keep sightseeing flexible and use practical rest and meal stops along the route.
On arrival in Shillong, check in at your hotel and spend the evening at leisure.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, leave Shillong for a full-day excursion to Cherrapunji.
Travel through the Khasi Hills and stop at suitable viewpoints when weather and visibility are favourable.
Visit selected waterfalls and natural attractions around Cherrapunji, including Nohkalikai Falls when local conditions permit.
A publicly accessible limestone cave may also be included according to available time and current access. Cave surfaces can be wet and uneven.
Return to Shillong by evening and relax after the day’s sightseeing.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, check out from your Shillong hotel and begin the return journey towards Guwahati.
Stop at Umiam Lake if weather and your departure schedule permit.
Continue downhill from Meghalaya into the Assam plains and drive towards Guwahati.
Keep a comfortable buffer before your onward flight or train, especially during periods of heavy rain or busy traffic.
Transfer to Guwahati Airport or railway station for departure.
Your 5 Days Guwahati, Kaziranga and Shillong Tour concludes after combining Assam wildlife with Shillong and Cherrapunji.
