Detailed Itinerary
Arrive at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport or railway station and meet your driver for the journey north to Varkala.
On arrival, check in at your hotel and take some time to rest. Later, walk towards Varkala Cliff, where the elevated promenade overlooks the Arabian Sea.
Continue towards Papanasam Beach and enjoy the late-afternoon coastal atmosphere. If weather is clear, sunset from the cliff is a good way to begin the trip.
Practical note: cliff-to-beach access involves steps and uneven sections, so comfortable footwear is useful if you plan to walk extensively.
Overnight stay in Varkala.
After breakfast, spend the morning exploring more of Varkala. Begin with another walk along the cliff and spend time at selected viewpoints before the day becomes warmer.
Visit the area around Janardhana Swamy Temple if temple heritage interests you. Interior access is subject to current temple rules, visitor eligibility and dress requirements.
Spend additional time at Papanasam Beach or along the cliff before checking out. During rough sea conditions, follow local safety advice and avoid swimming where warnings are in place.
Later, drive south to Kovalam. On arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening near Lighthouse Beach.

After breakfast, spend a full day exploring the beaches around Kovalam.
Start with Lighthouse Beach, then continue towards Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach. Each section of the coastline has a slightly different atmosphere.
Keep part of the afternoon free for beach time, a coastal walk or an optional Ayurveda treatment at a reputable centre. Kovalam is more enjoyable when the schedule is not packed with unnecessary sightseeing.
Sea conditions can change through the year. During monsoon or rough-water periods, swimming may be unsafe even when the beach remains open.
Finish the day with a relaxed evening near the coast.

After breakfast, check out from your Kovalam hotel and drive to Thiruvananthapuram.
Your transfer will be planned around the timing of your onward flight or train. If you have a late departure, a short city stop can be added without creating unnecessary pressure.
Depending on available time, consider a nearby museum, shopping stop or the public area around a city landmark rather than a long excursion.
At the appropriate time, transfer to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport or railway station for your onward journey.
