Indore · Ujjain · Omkareshwar · Maheshwar · Mandu · Bhopal · Pachmarhi · Jabalpur
Included:
Accommodation
Private Vehicle

Daily Breakfast

Experience Madhya Pradesh beyond a conventional temple pilgrimage: visit the Jyotirlingas of Ujjain and Omkareshwar, walk beside the Narmada at Maheshwar, discover Mandu’s palaces and continue to Sanchi, Pachmarhi and Jabalpur. This private journey pairs spiritual traditions with living culture, mountain landscapes and river scenery.

The journey begins in Indore and allows time in Ujjain for Mahakaleshwar darshan and an optional, separately confirmed Bhasma Aarti. At Omkareshwar, worship unfolds beside the Narmada; in Maheshwar, you can watch evening life on the ghats and meet local sari weavers. Mandu’s monuments add another architectural chapter before Bhopal and the UNESCO-listed Buddhist monuments at Sanchi. Bhimbetka’s rock paintings introduce prehistoric India on the way into the Satpura hills. Pachmarhi offers cave shrines, wooded viewpoints and seasonal waterfalls, with sightseeing adapted to local forest rules. Finally, the Narmada appears again at Jabalpur, cutting through the marble gorge of Bhedaghat. The route is suited to NRIs and international families who appreciate prayer but also want memorable experiences beyond temple queues. River outings, permits and shrine timings are confirmed close to travel, and the longer road days have intentionally lighter schedules.

Tour Highlights:

  • Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga and Mahakal Lok
  • Omkareshwar darshan and Narmada pilgrimage
  • Maheshwar ghats, Ahilya heritage and handloom weaving
  • Mandu, Sanchi and Bhimbetka heritage experiences
  • Pachmarhi cave shrine, forests and Satpura viewpoints
  • Bhedaghat Marble Rocks and Dhuandhar Falls

Detailed Itinerary

Arrive at Indore Airport and meet your driver for a private hotel transfer. After a long flight, the first afternoon is left free to settle in. If you arrive early, take a gentle walk near Rajwada, where the former Holkar palace stands amid a lively old market. The city’s food culture offers an easy introduction to Malwa, but nothing is compulsory on arrival day.

Day Experiences:

  • Private airport welcome and transfer
  • Optional Rajwada neighbourhood walk

Overnight stay in Indore.

Arrive in Indore – A Gentle Introduction on Madhya Pradesh tour

Drive to the sacred city of Ujjain, set beside the Shipra River. Visit Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga for darshan and explore Mahakal Lok, where sculpted stories of Shiva line the temple corridor. Your guide will explain the temple’s significance while allowing time for worship. An evening visit near Ram Ghat introduces the devotional atmosphere of the city. Darshan arrangements depend on the temple’s current entry system.

Day Experiences:

  • Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga darshan
  • Mahakal Lok and Shipra riverside

Overnight stay in Ujjain.

Indore to Ujjain – Mahakal Lok on Madhya Pradesh tour

Begin with an optional Bhasma Aarti only if advance admission has been confirmed; this early ritual is not automatically part of the package. Later, visit Kaal Bhairav Temple, Harsiddhi Temple and Sandipani Ashram, associated with stories of Krishna’s education. The visit is as much about watching local devotion as visiting buildings. Allow pauses between temples rather than trying to cover every shrine in Ujjain.

Day Experiences:

  • Optional pre-booked Bhasma Aarti
  • Kaal Bhairav and Harsiddhi temples
  • Sandipani Ashram

Overnight stay in Ujjain.

Ujjain – Temples and Living Traditions on Madhya Pradesh tour

Travel towards the Narmada to Omkareshwar, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga pilgrimage sites. Cross to the temple area on Mandhata island and visit Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar as current access permits. The setting is different from Ujjain: temple lanes, river ghats and distant hills frame the experience. Keep the afternoon for darshan and a quiet riverfront walk instead of rushing onward to another town.

Day Experiences:

  • Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar temples
  • Mandhata island and Narmada ghats

Overnight stay in Omkareshwar.

Ujjain to Omkareshwar – Narmada Jyotirlinga on Madhya Pradesh tour

After a relaxed morning, drive to Maheshwar on the Narmada River. Walk along the stone ghats beneath Ahilya Fort and learn how Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar shaped the town’s religious and civic life. Visit a weaving workshop to see how Maheshwari saris are made on traditional looms. If there is a local evening aarti, you may watch from the river steps; participation remains a personal choice.

Day Experiences:

  • Ahilya Fort and Narmada ghats
  • Maheshwari weaving demonstration
  • Possible evening river aarti

Overnight stay in Maheshwar.

Omkareshwar to Maheshwar – Ahilyabai’s Town on Madhya Pradesh tour

Enjoy a slower day in Maheshwar, beginning with Rajarajeshwar Temple and the lanes around the old fort. Spend time with local weavers and see the patterns and colours that distinguish Maheshwari textiles. A gentle riverboat outing can be arranged when boats are operating safely. There is time to sit by the ghats, photograph everyday life and enjoy a locally prepared meal rather than ticking off distant temples.

Day Experiences:

  • Historic temples and fort lanes
  • Local handloom craft encounter
  • Optional Narmada boat experience

Overnight stay in Maheshwar.

Maheshwar – Riverside Heritage and Craft on Madhya Pradesh tour

Travel to Mandu, the former hilltop capital famous for its romantic legends and Afghan-period architecture. Explore Jahaz Mahal, the long palace standing between water tanks, and Hindola Mahal with its distinctive sloping walls. Later visit Hoshang Shah’s Tomb or Roopmati’s Pavilion depending on time. The story of Mandu adds Islamic architecture and courtly culture to a journey that has so far focused on Shiva pilgrimage and the Narmada.

Day Experiences:

  • Jahaz Mahal and Hindola Mahal
  • Selected Mandu monuments and viewpoints

Overnight stay in Mandu.

Maheshwar to Mandu – Palaces Above the Plains on Madhya Pradesh tour

Leave Mandu after breakfast for Bhopal, where the landscape gradually changes from the Malwa plateau to the city’s lakes. After arrival, check in and take an easy evening walk near Upper Lake. The capital is a useful base for two very different heritage experiences: Buddhist Sanchi and prehistoric Bhimbetka.

Day Experiences:

  • Private road transfer
  • Optional Upper Lake walk

Overnight stay in Bhopal.

Mandu to Bhopal – Lakeside Evening on Madhya Pradesh tour

Visit the Great Stupa at Sanchi, where carved gateways and early Buddhist monuments stand on a hill above the plains. A guide will help you read the symbols, stories and architectural details. On returning to Bhopal, visit the Tribal Museum if it is open, or keep the afternoon free for the lakeside. This is a contemplative day rather than a crowded museum marathon.

Day Experiences:

  • Sanchi Buddhist monuments
  • Tribal Museum subject to opening

Overnight stay in Bhopal.

Sanchi and Bhopal Museum Heritage on Madhya Pradesh tour

Depart early to explore the UNESCO-listed Bhimbetka rock shelters south of Bhopal. The paintings and unusual sandstone formations provide a vivid link to prehistoric life. Continue towards Pachmarhi in the Satpura hills, with rest stops on the way. This is a longer travel day and you may reach the hill station in the late afternoon or evening. Avoid scheduling further sightseeing after check-in.

Day Experiences:

  • Bhimbetka guided walk
  • Transfer into Satpura hill country

Overnight stay in Pachmarhi.

Bhimbetka Rock Art to Pachmarhi on Madhya Pradesh tour

Spend a day among Pachmarhi’s wooded hills, selecting experiences around mobility, weather and forest rules. Jata Shankar is a cave shrine reached by steps, while Pandav Caves and accessible viewpoints introduce a different side of the region. Bee Falls or another natural site may be included when the route is open and suitable for the group. Local authorised vehicles or permits can be required for forest sightseeing.

Day Experiences:

  • Jata Shankar shrine
  • Pandav Caves and selected viewpoints
  • Seasonal nature outing

Overnight stay in Pachmarhi.

Pachmarhi – Forest, Shrines and Viewpoints on Madhya Pradesh tour

Travel from Pachmarhi towards Jabalpur, allowing a substantial part of the day for the drive and breaks. On arrival, check in and relax. If time permits, watch the evening activity at a Narmada ghat. This journey connects the Shiva pilgrimage and Buddhist history of western and central Madhya Pradesh with the dramatic river landscape around Bhedaghat.

Day Experiences:

  • Daytime road transfer
  • Optional Narmada ghat visit

Overnight stay in Jabalpur.

Pachmarhi to Jabalpur – Narmada Country on Madhya Pradesh tour

Explore Bhedaghat, where the Narmada runs between high marble cliffs. A boat ride gives close views of the changing stone colours when river conditions permit; boating is generally suspended in the monsoon. Continue to Dhuandhar Falls and, if suitable, visit Chausath Yogini Temple above the valley. Temple steps and riverside approaches can be demanding, so the guide can adapt the walking.

Day Experiences:

  • Marble Rocks and optional boat ride
  • Dhuandhar Falls
  • Optional Chausath Yogini Temple

Overnight stay in Jabalpur.

Bhedaghat – Marble Gorge and Dhuandhar Falls on Madhya Pradesh tour

Transfer to Jabalpur Airport or railway station for your onward journey. Travellers connecting to international flights should allow enough time for a domestic connection, since Jabalpur is not a major international gateway. The tour ends after linking the Shiva temples of Ujjain and Omkareshwar, the Narmada riverside at Maheshwar, Mandu, Sanchi, Bhimbetka and the Satpura hills.

Day Experiences:

  • Airport or railway transfer
  • Domestic onward connection

Tour concludes in Jabalpur.

Practical Details Before Booking

14 Days Madhya Pradesh Tour FAQs

Bhasma Aarti is subject to separately confirmed admission through the official Mahakaleshwar Temple booking system. It cannot be guaranteed in a standard tour price; reporting time, attire and ID requirements must be checked before travel.

Both include Mahakaleshwar, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar and important Buddhist heritage. The 14-day version adds Pachmarhi’s cave shrine and forest scenery plus the Narmada gorge at Jabalpur, making it more varied and better for travellers who want pilgrimage alongside nature.

Some Pachmarhi attractions fall under regulated forest access, with local permits or authorised vehicles required. Routes can change with rain or forest management. We will choose suitable visits based on accessibility, season and current official permissions.

No. Boat operations through the Marble Rocks depend on river levels and local-authority decisions and are commonly suspended during the monsoon. Dhuandhar Falls and other viewpoints may still be accessible when boating is unavailable.

It can be adapted, but some temple queues, ghat steps, Bhimbetka paths and Pachmarhi trails can be tiring. We can keep the easier viewpoints, choose comfortable hotels and reduce optional walking or waterfall visits.

Yes, a specific puja or ritual may be requested in advance. The final proposal must state which temple or ghat, priest service, fees and requirements are included. We do not promise unrestricted inner-sanctum access.

The tour starts at Indore Airport and ends at Jabalpur Airport or railway station. Travellers coming from abroad commonly need domestic connections. We recommend allowing generous connection time when domestic and international flights are on separate tickets.

October to March is usually the easiest combined season for temple visits and outdoor sightseeing. Pachmarhi can be green during monsoon, but trails may close; Bhedaghat boating is restricted in high water. Heat increases substantially from April onward.

This route is designed around pilgrimage, Buddhist heritage, Malwa architecture and scenery, not wildlife drives. For visitors primarily interested in tiger safaris, a separately planned Bandhavgarh or Kanha itinerary is more suitable.
