Well Organized Trip
We appreciated our travel design er (Ovijit) was able to customize our trip to add in additional stops and tailor our hotels to what we were looking for.
This 13 Days Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya Tour combines two of Northeast India’s most rewarding regions in one road journey. The first part follows the classic western Arunachal route through Bhalukpong, Dirang, Tawang and Bomdila. The second part continues into Meghalaya for Shillong, Mawlynnong, Dawki, Cherrapunji and Mawsynram.
The itinerary is built around search intent for a 13 days Arunachal Meghalaya tour, Tawang Shillong Cherrapunji itinerary, Northeast India tour from Guwahati and Arunachal Pradesh Meghalaya tour package. It combines Himalayan monasteries and high mountain passes with Khasi villages, waterfalls, limestone landscapes and Meghalaya’s famous rain-fed scenery.
The route is ideal for travellers who want variety rather than spending the entire trip in one mountain region. Arunachal Pradesh contributes Buddhist heritage, Monpa culture and high-altitude landscapes, while Meghalaya adds living-root-bridge country, dramatic valleys, clear rivers and a very different indigenous cultural setting.
Mountain-road conditions in Arunachal Pradesh can change because of snow, landslides and maintenance. In Meghalaya, heavy rain can affect waterfall access, viewpoints and road conditions. The sequence of sightseeing should therefore remain flexible.
Arunachal entry permits should be arranged before travel. Any Bumla Pass excursion requires additional local permission and remains subject to security, road and weather conditions.
Travellers wanting a deeper regional journey can combine this route with Ziro Valley or additional Meghalaya tour packages.
Arrive at Guwahati Airport or railway station and meet your driver for the journey towards Bhalukpong, close to the western entrance of Arunachal Pradesh.
The drive begins across the Assam plains before reaching the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. Keep required identification and Arunachal permit documents accessible during the journey.
On arrival, check in at the hotel and rest. If daylight remains, take a short walk around the local area or near the river.
Overnight stay in Bhalukpong.
After breakfast, leave Bhalukpong and begin the scenic mountain journey towards Dirang.
The route gradually changes from foothill forest to deeper mountain valleys, river scenery and small settlements.
Stop at suitable viewpoints and rest points according to road and weather conditions.
On arrival in Dirang, check in and spend the remainder of the day relaxing or exploring the nearby village and monastery area.
Overnight stay in Dirang.
Spend a full day around Dirang to experience the valley without another long transfer.
Explore the old village, local monastery and traditional settlement areas according to current access. Include nearby valley scenery or Sangti Valley if road conditions and available time are suitable.
Take time to understand the Monpa cultural landscape, local agriculture and mountain lifestyle rather than treating the day as a checklist of short stops.
This additional night also provides a useful acclimatisation break before crossing the higher terrain towards Tawang.
Overnight stay in Dirang.
After breakfast, drive towards Tawang.
Cross Sela Pass, where weather can change quickly and snow, fog or strong wind may affect road conditions and visibility.
Continue to Jaswant Garh War Memorial and then drive onwards through dramatic mountain terrain towards Tawang.
Where road conditions permit, stop near Nuranang Falls or another suitable viewpoint.
On arrival in Tawang, check in and keep the evening relaxed for acclimatisation.
Overnight stay in Tawang.
Spend a full day exploring Tawang.
Begin with Tawang Monastery and explore its publicly accessible prayer halls, courtyards and religious spaces respectfully.
Continue to Tawang War Memorial for historical context about the 1962 conflict and the strategic importance of the region.
Later, explore the local market, viewpoints and smaller cultural sites around town.
Overnight stay in Tawang.
Today is reserved for the high-altitude excursion from Tawang towards Bumla Pass.
The route passes through dramatic mountain terrain and high-altitude lakes. Stops should be selected according to current road and weather conditions.
Bumla Pass is a restricted border area and requires additional local permission. Access depends on security clearance, snow, road conditions and weather, so the excursion cannot be guaranteed in all circumstances.
Keep physical activity moderate because of the altitude. Return to Tawang if anyone develops symptoms of altitude discomfort.
Overnight stay in Tawang.
After breakfast, check out from Tawang and drive towards Bomdila.
Retrace the mountain route across the Sela region, taking rest and photography stops where conditions permit.
On arrival in Bomdila, check in and visit Bomdila Monastery if opening hours and daylight allow.
Overnight stay in Bomdila.
After breakfast, descend from Bomdila towards the Assam foothills.
Depending on hotel selection and the following day’s road plan, the overnight stop can be arranged around Tezpur, Bhalukpong or Nameri.
Keep this as a transfer-focused day and avoid overloading it with sightseeing, because mountain-road conditions can affect arrival time.
Overnight stay in the Tezpur, Bhalukpong or Nameri area.
After breakfast, begin the long drive from the Assam foothills towards Shillong.
The journey marks a major change in landscape as the route leaves Arunachal’s Himalayan foothills and climbs towards the Meghalaya plateau.
On arrival in Shillong, check in at your hotel and keep the evening relaxed. If time permits, visit a local market or central town area.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, leave Shillong for a full day exploring southern Meghalaya.
Visit Mawlynnong and spend time walking through the village area. Follow local community rules and avoid intrusive photography.
Continue to Dawki and the Umngot River. Boating depends on weather, water conditions and local operations, so it should remain optional.
Later, continue towards Cherrapunji and check in at your hotel.
Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.
Spend the morning exploring Cherrapunji.
Visit selected waterfalls, limestone caves and viewpoints according to weather and current access. Waterfall flow varies strongly with season and rainfall.
If a cave visit is included, wear suitable footwear and follow local safety guidance, especially during periods of heavy rain.
After sightseeing, drive back to Shillong and check in at your hotel.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, drive from Shillong towards Mawsynram.
Explore selected viewpoints, caves or natural attractions according to weather and current access.
The region receives exceptionally heavy rainfall, so road and walking conditions can change quickly. Carry suitable rain protection and footwear.
Return to Shillong by evening and enjoy the final night of the journey.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, check out from your Shillong hotel and drive to Guwahati.
Plan the transfer around your onward flight or train timing and allow sufficient buffer for traffic between Shillong and Guwahati.
On arrival, transfer to Guwahati Airport or railway station.
Your 13 Days Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya Tour concludes after combining Tawang’s Himalayan Buddhist landscape with Shillong, Dawki, Cherrapunji and Mawsynram in Meghalaya.
Tour concludes in Guwahati.
