PEravikulam National Park, Kerala

Popular for the flower of Neelakurinji, Eravikulam National Park, is in the summit of Western Ghats. It is located in the cradle of high ranges of the Idukki district. It is included in the list of World Heritage sites. Besides being home to Nilgiri Tahr, an endangered mountain goat and other animals, it offers a view of majestic hills and tea gardens. Divided into the core area, buffer area and tourism area, this National Park is well protected. It is house to a large variety of flora and fauna. It is a house to 132 species of birds, 19 species of amphibians, 26 mammals, 101 butterflies, and 20 orchid species.

Things to do here

The Anamudi in this National Park attracts lots of enthusiasts. It is famous for trekking among adventure lovers. Spotting the endangered mountain goat,  Nilgiri Thar, Nilgiri marten, small-clawed otter, ruddy mongoose, dusky striped squirrel and many other animals. You can also participate in eco-tourism activity.

Other than these, you can also try bird watching. Some of the birds found here are Black & Orange Flycatcher, White Bellied Shortwing, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Kerala Laughing Thrush, and Nilgiri Verditer Flycatcher.

 

How to Reach Eravikulam National Park

From the city center of Munnar, this National Park is somewhat 13 kilometers away. The Udumalpet and the Eravikulam National Park Road will take approximately half an hour to reach here.

Best time to visit Eravikulam National Park

Visiting Eravikulam National Park every time will be perfect in itself. Summer, March-May, will let you spot a variety of indigenous animals. Monsoon, June-August, makes this National Park more green and exquisite. And winter, October-February will male you feel like walking in heaven with all its fog
