Karnataka's Hubballi Railway Station Achieves Guinness World Record for Longest Platform

Karnataka, a state located in India, has achieved a remarkable accomplishment in the field of railways. The South Western Railway (SWR) zone’s Hubballi railway station has made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest railway platform in the world at Shri Siddharoodha Swamiji station. According to reports, the platform measures an impressive 1507 meters in length and was constructed at a cost of around INR 20 crore. This platform extension is a part of the Hubballi yard’s renovation and aims to facilitate the operation of additional trains in the future.

The Ministry of Railways recently shared this news, leading to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his delight in this significant achievement. He pointed out that this platform extension is not just a record, but an advancement in the thought process of infrastructure development. Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Railway station Hubballi is a significant junction in Karnataka, acting as a major hub of trade and commerce in the North Karnataka region. The station is situated at the intersection of railway lines towards Bengaluru (Davanagere side), Hosapete (Gadag side), and Vasco-Da-Gama/Belagavi (Londa side).

The Prime Minister further stated that India is progressing into the 21st century by modernizing its cities. He added that Hubballi-Dharwad has been included in the smart city project, which will take the region to new heights. These projects are estimated to cost around INR 520 crore and are expected to improve the quality of life by creating hygienic, functional, and safe public spaces while transforming the town into a futuristic urban center.

During the laying of the foundation stone for the electrification of Hosapete – Hubballi – Tinaighat section, the PM noted that these efforts would help boost the economic development of the region and promote tourism simultaneously. The electrification of the railway section will facilitate faster and more efficient train operations, which will ultimately benefit the people of the region.
