Purana Quila, Delhi

One of the most enchanting tourist attractions that tell Delhi's history in detail is Purana Quila Delhi. The Purana Quila is proof of the glory of the Mohammedan art, built by the Mughal emperor, the Humayun. Purana Quila is based in New Delhi and the historic items of Indraprastha, mentioned in the Mahabharata, are allegedly preserved.

The Purana Quila was constructed between 1538 and 1545 by the emperor Humanyun and was known asDinpanah, the 'faithful' refuge. The fort was at the bank of the Yamuna River before the river changed. In an attempt to build a city of its own, Humayun built the Purana Quila. However, unlike the other emperors building such a structure, the old fort did not typically bear the name of its creator. After the defeat of Humayun, Sher Shah demolished and renamed most of the structures within the old fort. But again, Humayun took over his city from the son of Sher Shah to change the city and rebuild its ancient glory.

The Purana Quila recalls the Mughal era, which was excellent in architectural styles. The Humayun Darwaza, The Bara Darwaza, The Talaqi Darwaza, these three gates are built with red sandstone and have a double story. The two portals in the historic fort were the HumayunDarwaza and Bara Darwaza.

The other attractions at the fort are Qila-I-Kuhna Masjid and SherMandal the small Museum. The Qila-I-Kuhna Masjid was created by Sher Shah in 1541 when he took the PuranaQuila after Humayun was defeated. Entrances were banned via the TalaqiDarwaza as the name implied. The prayer hall is the most imposing section of the masjid with five horse-shoe arched doors. Because of the shortage of supply, the original plans to build the entire place with marble was undermined. However, the merger of marble and sandstone gave the masjid a unique style.

The Sher Mandal is now an octagonal observatory. The building's structure and style indicate that the Shermandal had been built for entertainment. The design and style of the building is a clear combination of the magnificence of Muslim and Hindu architecture. Humayun used his own library of the Sher Mandalas when he recaptured the Purana Quila of Sher Shah's son.The Purana Quila museum has many facts which record the beginning and end of the glorious Mughal era.
