Air India: UAE entry rule change means ‘single-named persons’ are inadmissible

Air India and AI Express have issued an advisory based on new guidelines issued by the Emirate banning single-name passengers from entering the UAE. The new rule will take effect immediately.

According to an AI and AI Express circular dated November 21, the “name as appearing on the passport for travel to UAE.”

According to the guideline, “As per National Advance Information Center, UAE, the following guideline has been implemented with immediate effect for travel to UAE. Any passport holder with a single name (word) either in a surname or given name will not be accepted by UAE immigration and the passenger will be considered as INAD.”

What is INAD Passenger

INAD stands for inadmissible passenger, which is a term used in the aviation industry to describe a person who is not allowed to enter the country in which they wish to visit. Airlines are responsible for escorting INAD passengers back home.

The circular gives an example of an INAD passenger: A passenger with only Praveen as his given name and no surname. Praveen is his surname and he does not have a given name. Praveen is his surname and he does not have a given name. “Such a passenger will not be issued a visa and in case the visa was issued previously then he will be INAD by immigration,” the document states.

It is stated in the circular that the following persons will not be considered as INAD: Praveen Kumar as a given name and no surname, Praveen Kumar as a surname and no given name, and Praveen Kumar as a given name and Kumar as a surname.

The new rule “applies only to passengers with visit visa/visa on arrival/employment and temporary visas and is not applicable to existing UAE Resident card holders,” it adds.
