Many parts of North India have been reeling under cold-wave conditions over the last few days. Ladakh’s Padum town is experiencing temperatures dropping to a chilly -25 degrees Celsius the day before. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the cold temperatures will likely last for the coming days.

The weather agency has also stated that very dense fogs in the evening or early morning hours in some or many areas over north India, including Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, will likely remain for the next five days.

In the meantime, Himachal Pradesh also saw minimum temperatures drop by just a few degrees on Monday and hovered close to the freezing point in many locations. As many as 92 roads were shut in Himachal because of heavy snowfalls in higher elevations and Lahaul and Spiti during the last few days. Additionally, the icy winds swept across the region, forcing people to stay inside.

The high-altitude mountain passes and tribal regions saw temperatures drop to sub-zero levels. The mercury was between 12 and 15 notches lower than the freezing temperature at Keylong in Keylong and Kusumsiri.

Due to the frigid temperatures, the department advised farmers to keep their livestock inside. It also asked farmers to ensure that proper facilities are set up to ensure they are warm. The advisory also stated that temperatures are expected to drop further.
