History of the Jwalamukhi Temple:
The temple houses the goddess Jwalamukhi, who is the incarnation of Adi Parashakti. Jwalamukhitemple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and it is believed that the tongue part of Goddess Sati fell here. The special attraction of the temple is there will be no idol in the temple. In the form of flame, devotees worship the goddess. As per the historians, the temple was built by Raja Bhumi Chand. Once he dreamt of the arrival of Goddess Durga. Then, he sent the people to search and they found the place. In that place, the king built the temple.
Later, in the times of Akbar’s rule, he tried to stop the flames of the temple thinking that they may burn down the surroundings. But his effort went in vain and nothing stopped the flames. Then, he presented a golden parasol to the temple but it suddenly fell into flames a new metal was formed, which is never seen in the world. Such a mysterious and interesting temple it is. Later, Firuz Shah Tughlaq collected all the 1300 Sanskrit manuscripts from the temple’s library and translated them into Persian language. He is the first person to do such a translation.
All about the Jwalamukhi Temple:
The temple is located in Jwalamukhi Town in Kangra and it is a very prominent ancient temple in India. It holds no idol just a flame as the deity of the temple. The main flame emerging out from a small fissure is worshipped as Goddess Jwalamukhi. Then, there are other nine flames depicting the Navadurgas and all the flames are natural. After the scientific intervention, they found that an underground volcano exists and the gas causing the flames.
When it comes to the architecture of the temple, the temple’s main dome is covered with gold, and the entrance door is covered with silver. The Golden covering of the dome was presented by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Besides, the pinnacles of the temple are other best architectural works. A big mandapa before the temple with a huge brass bell is the special attraction of the temple. The bell was gifted by the King of Nepal.
A Sri Yantra is placed before the flame and it is decorated with ornaments and shawls. Poojas will be performed to the Yantra believing the form of Goddess. Every day five times Aarti will be performed and once havan will be performed. Jwalamukhi Temple is a must-visit and an important religious destination in Kangrato visit at least once to witness the Goddess Jwalamukha.
