Char Dham Yatra 2022: COVID Testing, Vaccination Certificates Not Required for Devotees

Uttarakhand government instructs devotees to register on the state’s website ( https://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in/signin.php ) prior to attending the Char Dham Yatra in 2022, set to begin on May 3. The devotees have not been required to submit to COVID-19 testing and be checked for vaccination certificates. On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Secretary SS Sandhu convened a meeting of the concerned officers to clarify the confusion over the COVID-19 tests for travelers and pilgrims traveling outside Uttarakhand. He instructed officials to ensure that the Char Dham Yatra proceeds smoothly until further notice.

According to the official, at present, passengers and devotees arriving from the state borders are not required to undergo COVID-19 testing and present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate. Travelers and devotees in Uttarakhand must, however, register on the Chardham Yatra’s Tourism Department’s website. Government and administration should continuously monitor the situation, the official said.

During this time of rising Covid cases, the government issued these instructions. In the last eight weeks, the positivity rate in Uttarakhand has crossed 1 percent for the first time, as well. According to the state, 44 cases were reported on April 21, while 89 cases were reported on April 28.

Gangotri and Yamunotri temples are inaugurated as part of Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra in the Uttarkashi district. May 6 marks the opening of Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district and May 8 marks the opening of Badrinath in Chamoli district.

For the first time in two years, the yatra will be free of Covid-induced restrictions, bringing in a record number of pilgrims. According to the PTI news agency, Uttarakhand Tourism Secretary Dilip Jawalkar said there were 15,829 pilgrims who sought refuge at Yamunotri on May 3, 16,804 at Gangotri, 41,107 at Kedarnath, and 29,488 at Badrinath during that time.
