Three-day winter carnival begins at Aharbal to boost tourism

A three-day winter carnival was launched on Monday in South Kashmir’s snow-covered Aharbal to showcase the beauty of Kulgam and harness its adventure potential. The district administration organized the event in collaboration with Aharbal Development Authority, Tourism Department, and Forest Division Kulgam. There were also snow games at this event, such as snow rugby, snow volleyball, snow runs for peace, snow skiing, and tug-of-war. This was the first time any of these games had been held in Aharbal.

Aharbal will be developed at par with other tourist attractions in Kashmir, according to Divisional Commissioner for Kashmir Pandurang K Pole. Tourism in Kulgam has huge potential for attracting tourists, which needs to be fully realized. Various unexplored tourism destinations are also developing facilities to give tourists more options to choose from.

Kulgam is a place that will provide tourists with the real experience that they are looking for in the 21st century, according to the Regional Commissioner. Additionally, he stated, “The government has identified 38 destinations where the work to boost tourism will begin, and one of them is Kulgam.”

K Pole said, “If 20 percent of Vaishno Devi tourists visit here, then tourism will grow fivefold and with this increase in demand for the cottage, the guesthouse will also grow. He also said, “This is not an isolated event.”. There will be many other events where youth will receive training so that they can become experts in winter sports like car racing, snow skiing, and many more.” The Divisional Commissioner also said they will identify the guest house and train drivers for tourists.

Tourism at Aharbal tourist spot, which is also famous for its waterfall, will be improved as a result of this step taken by the administration. Everyone was looking forward to these games. Kulgam local Sneha says, “This is very encouraging and promising from the government. The tourism sector is an emerging and potential one. There are many beautiful places other than Gulmarg that need to be explored.”

Chairman of Municipal Council Kulgam, Muneeb Zargar, said that this initiative would be beneficial to our economy. The government should also pay attention to these areas in order to boost the development of infrastructure.
