Established in 1865, the Government Museum Bangalore is one of the oldest museums in India. At present, the Government Museum is an archaeological museum with a unique and rare collection of archaeological and geological artifacts like ancient jewelry, sculpture, coins, and Halmidi and Kannada inscriptions. There are 18 galleries in this museum which are divided into two exhibition floors. There are somewhat 70 paintings and 80 sculptures from the different dynasties and many other rare artifacts.

There are seven permanent calories in VITM: Engine Hall, Fun Science, Electrotechnical, Space Emerging Technology in the Service of Mankind, Biotechnological Revolution, BEL Hall of Electronics, and Children Science.
