Gujarat’s Gir forest Jungle Safari has reopened after a 4 month break

Gujarat's Gir forest Jungle Safari

Jungle safari in Gujarat’s Gir forest opens to the public after the four-month break during COVID-19.

It’s available to the public from October 16 to June 15 every year, after which it’s locked uptight. Other attractions, including the lion habitats at Devaliya and Ambardi safari parks, are open year-round.

After a four-month COVID-19 hiatus, Gujarat’s Gir forest, home to Asiatic lions, again offers a jungle tour to the public.

The COVID-19 epidemic forced the closure of Gujarat’s Gir forest, the only place where Asiatic lions can be found. The park reopened to visitors on Saturday after being shuttered for almost four months.

Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF) Mohan Ram marked off a jeep safari in Sasan Gir’s forest.

Due to the late monsoon season, the environment has undergone some unexpected changes, and he urged visitors to observe rules and SOP in light of the epidemic.

It’s available to the public from October 16 to June 15 every year, after which it’s locked uptight. Other attractions, including the lion habitats at Devaliya and Ambardi safari parks, are open year-round.

There has been a 100 percent online booking for the Gir Jungle Safari, which began today. “It’s a good start,” Ram told the news media after the meeting.

He said that since the Devaliya safari park reopened on June 17 (after a closure due to the COVID-19 epidemic), it has attracted more than 1.31 lakh visitors.

‘We’re certain that Gir safari will meet with a positive reception, too. We’ve made improvements to our tourism infrastructure and ask that you follow the COVID-19 recommendations so that we can keep the virus under control,” he added.

According to a population estimate done last year, the number of Asiatic lions living in the Gir forest area has risen by 29% to 674.
