Andaman makes negative RT-PCR report required for Air passengers

COVID-19 prevalence in the country has prompted Port Blair to take some strict measures to curb the growing number of Omicron variants across the state. All incoming air passengers will be required to provide negative RT-PCR test results. From now on, travelers entering the Union Territory will need to carry their negative COVID-19 test reports with them.

In an official order issued by the Administration’s Secretary of Health and Civil Aviation, all passengers (two years and older), including those partially and fully vaccinated, must present a PCR test report that is not older than 48 hours before departure.

The order stated, “In view of the recent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases including the detection of Omicron variant cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and in order to effectively manage the challenge arising out of the same, the authorities have taken this decision in the interest of public health”. In addition, the administration has asked the airlines to make sure that the COVID-19 protocol is followed by everyone. Passengers who have traveled to any foreign nation in the past 30 days (unvaccinated or partially vaccinated passengers) must also take the RT-PCR test upon arrival at the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair.

Until the reports arrive, travelers must isolate themselves at airport facilities. In case a positive test for the virus is conducted, quarantine protocol will be followed for that individual.
