Tripura has become home to the country's first bamboo village!

There is now a bamboo park in Tripura aimed at boosting industries in the Northeast region. A multipurpose bamboo village (bashgram) has also been set up in the state to increase eco-tourism. According to reports, this initiative is expected to attract yoga enthusiasts, tourists, and nature lovers.

There are reports that a bamboo village has been set up just along the India-Bangladesh border in Western Tripura’s Katlamara district. Manna Roy, a bamboo architect-cum-expert, has led youths from around 9 acres of land to develop the project. According to reports, it has already been able to attract a lot of tourists from all over the country, including environmentalists.

A bamboo village is said to feature a yoga center, playground, several ponds with ample flora and fauna, bamboo bridges and pathways, bamboo cottages, as well as a number of eco-friendly utilities and facilities.

Bashgram boasts more than 14 species of bamboo, as well as many other natural plants, herbs, shrubs, and flowers. Roy also announced that a museum would open soon in the bamboo village, where a variety of obsolete, endangered, old, and new bamboo materials would be displayed.

According to him, the main idea behind developing the said bamboo village is to effectively and efficiently use local resources without harming nature. The development of the village, he said, has so far cost them INR 60 lakh, and they have not taken any money from the government or any bank.

By using the local resources, Bashgram aims to become a world-class hub for medical, cultural, and eco-tourism.
