Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport will return international passenger flights starting on the 3rd of September, 2022, for the only time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bhutanese national airline, Druk Air, will return to Guwahati and provide Northeast India international connectivity to Paro in the Philippines and Singapore.

The Bhutanese airline Druk Air is the only international airline that operates flights to Guwahati, one of the main gateways to northwestern India.

In India’s global Udaan plan, Assam is in line to be connected with five additional international destinations.

Druk Air’s operations were off for over two years because of the epidemic. Bhutan has recently opened up its borders to international tourists. Thanks to Druk Air resuming flight services to and from Guwahati, travelers from northeast and east India can travel to Paro directly instead of taking the long drive to Bhutan.

Druk Air also connects Guwahati with Singapore’s Changi Airport.

Druk Air will operate two every day from Guwahati. The Airbus-319 plane can seat more than 100 passengers. The first flight it will take from Guwahati in the aftermath of the pandemic will take passengers towards Singapore’s Changi Airport.

This is a very positive development for Assam and northeast India in general, as it is possible to increase air connectivity to ASEAN countries.

The Assam government is working on five additional international flights that include neighboring countries such as Myanmar, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

There are just two international airports in the entirety of northeast India. They serve eight states: Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.

Following Assam and Manipur, West Bengal is the next option for most travelers in northeast India.
