In Himachal, where many hotels have reported occupancy levels of over 50 percent and a large number of vehicles are entering tourist towns every day, the festive season has brought cheer to the hearts of hoteliers in the state.

During the monsoon season, most hotels in Himachal remained completely empty. A rise in tourist footfall has been reported in all major tourist destinations, including Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and Dalhousie, since the beginning of the Navratras. Most tourists come from West Bengal these days along with student groups from many other states. Honeymooners are also visiting in large numbers,” said a source.

A number of tourist destinations in the state have seen a significant increase in tourism footfall, according to the president of the Federation of Himachal Hotels and Restaurant Association, Gajendra Thakur.

Despite not having a bumper crowd, hotels are still receiving good reservations throughout this month. Tourism inflows will increase after October 21 when Diwali occurs.

As Thakur noted, the weather is pleasant in the state and tourists can observe fresh snow in Manali and Lahaul-Spiti.

The festive season has been enhanced by fresh snowfall, he said, as people from nearby states are also visiting Himachal to observe the snow. A two-day snowfall on Rohtang Pass on September 13 allowed tourists to pass through the pass.

Hoteliers indicated that the snow was a significant advantage for the tourism industry as it was one of the major attractions for tourists. Therefore, many tourists traveled to the mountain pass to take advantage of the snow.

There was the highest-ever tourist crowd in Himachal last year, according to hoteliers. However, tourism footfall is down this season compared to last year, but hotels are still seeing some business.

Tourism footfall in Himachal decreases a week after Diwali but increases again in December. Between December 21 and January 1, most hotels remain fully booked throughout the busiest tourist season.
